Really?!

Some guy's wheel came off and ejected into my car today, while I was stopped next to him on the road.

Now one headlight points up, fender is dented, and hood is scratched.

Can't make it up sometimes.

Indeed. Had my little girl with me too, and if I had been moved up at all, it would have shot right into her door or worse, window. So very grateful for that.

Yes, the momentum of a rogue wheel and tire can cause some serious damage. Glad it wasn't too bad. We had a piece of a guys pick-up truck bed cover fly off and do some pretty bad damage to one of our other vehicles. I took quite a bit to get the repair done correctly.

Good luck.

Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine this morning. You have no idea what other issues people have. Try compassion, not judgement.

And here I thought "drive it 'till the wheels fall off" was just a figure of speech! Was it that Escalade in the pic? I wonder wth happened to cause the wheel to come off? Did it literally fly off as he was driving by while you were stopped?

Anyway, glad you're ok! I almost had a muffler come through my windshield on the highway at 80mph once. It bounced off my hood then the very front edge of the roof, missed the windshield by about 6" and .05 seconds timing-wise.

It was - he said he had taken it the day before for a tire repair and they didn't put the wheel on properly. Close calls definitely make you pucker!

I've owned quite a few Cadillac's recently and this a common occurrence at practically every light All joking aside, you live in Jersey what do you expect? Okay I'll stop as it's not comical. Damage at least appears to be minimal but I know that sinking feeling after it happens! Just glad you, your daughter and the Bimmer made it out alive You planning on claiming it on insurance?

Damn, NY must have a shitload of homeless people

It's not bad, but it'll need a new fender, bumper, and possibly headlight.

I watched a tire/wheel come off a tractor trailer and cross the median, car hit it at about 55 and it pushed the front bumper back to the windshield. Glad to hear everyone is OK, don't worry about the car, they'll make more of them.

I never did understand that. Before it fully falls off, it's got to be vibrating like a mo-farker. Heck, a little snow stuck in a rim makes it vibrate.

How the heck do you drive down the road with a wheel flopping totally clueless?

Well to give you an idea of the kind of intelligence we are dealing with, after the wheel fell off he tried to keep going. I swear. There is now a 6ft gouge in the road from where the brake rotor dug into the pavement.

He had said "it felt funny and he was going to pull over soon and take a look." So, yea. I was the lucky winner of that decision.
