First day home

My car is in production. I've read some other threads about dealer prep and break in periods, but I was wondering if anyone had a good routine for the first day home with a new car.

Do you treat the leather, double wax, use windshield coating, anything?

I saw one post on Bimmerfest where the guy really likes Gtechniq products. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...7&postcount=11

Just curious what others think. Product recommendations are welcome.

TIA

My 30i arrived at the dealer a couple hours ago. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule, I won't be able to pick it up until Friday. I will wash, clay bar, polish if necessary and apply a ceramic coating on Saturday morning.

Good thread. I just picked up my 30i today. At its next wash I will make sure the paint is smooth. If not I will clay. And then I will apply Optimum Opti-Seal. It is a hand applied paint sealant. I would like to know more about glass coatings too from those that have experience.

I'll have to look into Opti-Seal. I'm pretty much a newbie for car detailing and stick to Meguiar's stuff.

Reading around though, people really seem to like Jay Leno's products, sometimes over Chemical Guys.

I look forward to accessing some of the knowledge on this board.

I brought my 30i home last week and didn’t allow the dealership to touch the exterior. I washed it, clay barred it, washed it again and applied Sonax polymer net shield (synthetic sealant that lasts about 6 month). I don’t use any windshield sealant and only periodically wipe/condition the interior. I’m not a big fan of wax anymore as waxes only last about a month and I can’t really be claying and waxing every month. The ceramic coatings seem great I’m just kinda chicken regarding them as most folks recommend polishing the car before applying them and at the moment I don’t feel like going down that route.

At my store we hand wash and wax every car, is this not the norm?

Depending on how "attentive to detail" people are they may not want the car prepped by the dealer. The fillers applied by dealers are designed to hide flaws in the paint that a clay bar or even just a wash with Dawn dish detergent will expose. It just adds an extra step for them and sometimes dealers can even further damage the paint.

There is a great thread on Rennlist in the 991 GT3 section right now about paint damage that is coming through where the Port guys are trying to "correct" new paint issues such as runs or fallout.
