Out of curiosity - what is the size of the spare tyre?

I know its a space-saver spare but I'm curious to see how different its overall diameter is to the full size overall diameter.

Thanks, Tony

I have the 19" wheels and my full size tires are about 28" in diameter and 10.5" wide. My compact spare is roughly 26" in diameter and is 5.5" wide.

EDIT:
Tire is 245/50 R19 which makes it actually 28.6" in diameter and 9.6" wide.
Spare is 135/80 R18 which makes it actually 26.5" in diameter and 5.3" wide

Thanks for that prompt reply - appreciated. That answers my main question on the spare tyre option - that is whether a full size tyre would fit into the recess for the spare in terms of overall diameter. And the answer appears to be no.

No.

The amount of vertical space you lose was the reason I decided against this option.

You should be able to buy the tire and the jack, but the normal hole in the space under the cargo floor is presumably too narrow for it to fit there (be curious if someone without the spare could measure how deep that hole is) since they raised the floor about 3 inches to accommodate it. So you'd have to just leave it in the back like those who really wanted a spare in the previous generation did.

Tire and Spare....

Note that the hole in the cargo bay is only about 27 inches, so I doubt the full size tire will fit in there, even without the cargo floor.

See post #9 in this thread.

For all practical purposes, you cannot retrofit the spare.

It might be technically possible, but it won’t be easy or cheap since virtually all of the rear floor and side panels will change, and perhaps the supports too.

The loss of 3” of vertical space is a lot to give up... I’ve been hesitating to order over this issue for several months...

While we are on the subject...

Can you fit two carry-on bags stacked on top of each other underneath the retractable cover? If so, I might not miss the space too badly. If not, it is a definite no-go.

I haven’t found one with a spare on the lot, so can’t measure.

I wonder is anyone sells a "holder" you can mount on the side of the trunk, for a spare. So it's not floating around inside the back, and makes the back more planned usable.

Without the donut, maybe.

With the donut, no. Side-by-side, yes. With the donut, the height to the cover is around 15".

See this: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...&postcount=500

This might be useful, too: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...-driver-page-7 (the car shown has the donut)

I don't have the spare/raised cargo floor, and to confirm beyond any doubt like some said no way a spare can fit. The width of the under floor cargo space is ~ 27" but it is only ~ 17" wide and about 6" deep.

Could someone with the spare tire option please post pictures of the tools you received with the car (e.g. the jack stand, lug nut wrench, any other parts that come with it to change the tire)? Also, if there are part numbers on any of these parts that you got with your car, please list those as well. I didn't get the spare tire option, but ended buying a 19" spare rim/tire set (should be about the same diameter as my 21" rims/tires) just in case for longer trips and am trying to figure out what jack, wrench, jack crank, etc I need. Thank you!

you pay extra, you lose space, you're left with a load floor higher than the opening which means you will constantly have things falling out when you open the back hatch on any uphill park. there is no side rails for cargo management, and for all of this you get a mini spare. owned my last bmw five years never once had a tire issue. did however take my aftermarket aluminum "fence" from my previous car, volvo xc60 r design, which fit perfectly into the holes on top of the sliding rail locks which allows me to put groceries or home improvement supplies, or garden plants, etc back there and not worry about it going everywhere. I would not give that up for non run flats given the reliability of the modern tires.
