New Rotors and Ceramic Brake Pad Bedding/Break-In
I'm about to install some new BMW rotors and Akebono Ceramic pads and was wondering what the best way to bed in the brakes is? I've seen several website say to do this stop and go procedure but each website gives a slightly different process. For example one says to go from 60 to 15 about 8 times and then drive normally for a while while another says to go from like 35 to 10 6 times then go from 60 to 15 6 times and then drive normally? Also, since I have Ceramic pads is there specific way I'd have to bed in the pads?
Thanks for your help! |

Here :
Bedding-in new pads and rotors should be done carefully and slowly. Rapid heat build up in the brake system can lead to warped rotors and or glazed brake pads. Most brake pad compounds will take up to 300-400 miles to fully develop an even transfer film on the rotors.
Following are the recommended bed-in procedures from each manufacturer: AKEBONO 400 to 500 miles of moderate driving is recommended. Consumer should avoid heavy braking during this period. |
