Tire Suggestion
Hello folks!
I'm going to be swapping my run-flats for all season non run-flats this weekend and wanted to get some thoughts on tire suggestions. I live in NY, so winters could get rough. I'm leaning towards the Continental DWS06's. What would you guys go with?

I've got those non-Rft Continental DWS06s on my 528 and on my 435 and am very happy with them all around. I change to dedicated winter tires in November but when I was caught by surprise in snow with the DWS, they did very well.
I have to also say that they are lasting longer than I thought they would and the S is still showing up in the tread.

+1 on DWS06s..... got 35000 miles on staggered 18”s on my F31. Just put another set of DWS06 again. Very happy with tire!

I like to roll with the Michelin pilot super sports and when the weathers bad I drive one of my other cars. Something more winter friendly

This thread has some good info on this same topic.
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1239172 After looking into this quite a bit, the three I had on my short list were the DWS06, the AS3+ and the P Zero All Season Plus. Read this test summary. Good stuff. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=230 Anyway, you can't go wrong, but with the lack of steering feedback on this car, I guess a tire with more steering response is probably a good idea. If this is your winter tire, I would go with snow/ice tires if you are expecting to see frozen, icy or slushy roads. All seasons are ok in the dry snow, but don't hold a candle to winter tires in the type of road conditions I see in the winter in the midwest.

I have been satisfied with the BFGoodrich g-Force COMP-2 A/S in the past. I'd say they are one of the "best bang for your buck" options and it has some favorable reviews on tirerack. The aggressive tread pattern spilling over to the sidewall might be a turn off for a lot of folks though.

I think the A/S 3+ tick the most important boxes, but the price is significantly higher.
The BFG are low in price and have good steering response, but a low treadwear number, so practically speaking they likely wont last as long as the DWS06 which are only slightly more expensive, so probably more miles per dollar there, but the steering response isn't stellar. Always compromises. Again, all of these are way above average, so you really can't go wrong.

Went with the DWS06's and having them installed today. First time I'm using a mobile tire installer but I've read lots of good reviews. Hopefully they do a good job so I never have to go to another tire shop again!

Let us know how it works out with the mobile installer. Also let us know what you find to be the optimal tire pressure. |

So the install went great, all in the comfort of my driveway. Swap took about 45 minutes and cheapest price around ($650 for tires installed and balanced). Front pressure was set to 32 and rear 39 as per spec. Reset TPMS because I got an initial low tire pressure for my rear passenger tire. Once TPMS reset the light went out and all 4 tires are now green.
Ride quality is holy shit night and day. So much quieter and no jarring. It's amazing how harsh the RFT's are. Overall I'm extremely happy.

I waffled for a while last year trying to decide between the AS3+'s and the DWS06's for my winter wheels (it's not really cold enough for actual winter rubber here). I went with the AS3+'s and while I think they're fine in the rain and 30 to 40 degree temps that are common for most of our winter, they aren't great (even for All Seasons) on snow. I've driven through a lot of winters in much snowier areas on All Seasons, and the AS3+'s have let me down a bit.
Lots of folk have reported better snow performance with the DWS06's. Sounds like they'll serve you well. |
