Question Fuel Pump Issue ??

Just took redelivery of my car on Thursday(335 - E93).... I put 500 miles on it in Europe and never had this issue...

When I hit the start button.. sometimes it starts in 1 second... other times it cranks for like 5-8 seconds..... Does this sound like a fuel pump issue... It is a March 2008 built car..

Only other thing I can think of is that I leave my Ipod plugged in.... would that drain the battery ??

I really doubt it'd be the battery.

an iPod doesn't take up that much power. I've left my cellphone in the car on charge the whole night, and it starts fine.

Sounds like the engine is not being primed. I'm not sure how it works on a BMW but some cars prim the engine when you unlock the doors, some do it when you open the driver door, and some do it when you turn the key to pos. 2. The fuel pump makes a buzzing sound when it activates but the e90 make a lot of different noises so I'm not sure which one is the fuel pump. Take it to the shop and have it looked at. It really should only crank 1 or 2 seconds not 5-8.

5-8 seconds is way too long...that sounds like a fuel pump issue to me. Take it in!

This is a known issue with the fuel pump and BMW just released a software upgrade that is free at your dealership.

However, if you have any tunes on your software it will erase them and you will need to re-install.

I had this issue at 2K miles but it is fixed now.

I get long cranks (3-4 seconds) when the weather gets hot (LA has been 90-100 degrees for the last few days), especially after heatsoak. I have had the car tested twice and it is not the HPFP.

Just had my HPFP replaced under warranty and it corrected this and some acceleration stutter I would get on occasion... crazy but the car feels new again!

Well dropped it off for service today.. They said it was a 1 time fault code with the fuel pump.. but not showing any issues now..

They asked to keep the car overnight to see if it occurs in the morning
