I am test driving the new F90 M5 on the 8th October, will let you know what it's like, not sure how long I will get in it though.

The dealer in Wilmslow called bullshit on any test drives in 2017.
He gave me a long chat about build times and how there a top dealer, etc. Sounded like a sales guy whos just been told he missed the boat. Very interested to hear how the test drives go.

My dealer of choice told me they're getting a car soon they can preview to customers, but definitely no test drives are allowed until they get their demonstrator next year.
I'd be interested in hearing how you guys are doing it, are they "pretending" you're dealership staff as you're valued customers? |

He didn't, which is probably why there is a notable absence of any response here

They told us a story to get people in. The car is LARGE for UK roads IMO.

I saw it in Leicester and it does look like quite a big car.
My biggest concern though is the depreciation. Circa 95k with options and only "worth" 30k as a trade in 4 years later... ouch! Even with hefty discounts, which will likely come in a year or so's time, I can't help but feel in the UK I'd get more of an adrenaline rush out of burning my money! |

Maybe I should take a drive in a new 540i as I keep going and looking at F10 M5's but each time get back in my 335i and struggle to justify the extra performance the M5 gives for probably 95% of my driving.

It compares to the F10 550i I once had for performance but it's way in front on everything else.

95K is pretty high for an M5, don’t get me wrong I love the M5, however you can pick up a 911 GT3 for that price. Granted it’s second hand but just makes you think, of the alternatives at that price point

How is the GTS, coming from an M5? I am thinking of possibly getting a 911.
You can pick up a 997 gen1 for about 85k, there is one currently available as a second hand approved from Porsche. You can get the a 997 gen2 from about 95-100. Sorry I should have been clearer |

Okay cool. I like the GTS for all the things you would want and expect. It feels like a 911, sounds odd but my last two 911’s of 10-20 years ago came back to mind. The balance, steering and chassis have something in common and it’s feels right
The springs and dampers are great, firmer than the M5 on dialled up KW V3’s. The ride is good but a little unsettled on very poor surfaces (it’s the lower sport plus suspension). But it’s nice to move to harder settings when you want and have firm compliance not soft suspension when not. The engine is very responsive and sounds great, I love the mechanical sound of NA 911’s. Feels revvy and sporty but does not have the grunt of the M5, I do miss that a little tbh. I much prefer the size. The f10 was big, too big for me living in the centre of Bath. The chassis is fabulous, really superb balance and it feels light and planted |

Buying a new M5 is nuts, no idea why people do that. Depreciate sooo badly, 911's seem to hold value well, if i was to spend 95k it would be a 911 for sure.
