6 Speed Manual Trans + Diff Oil Recommendations
Hello,
I have not seen much talk about the oils people use for our cars so wanted to see if we can get a new one that is most recent started. I usually change my diff and trans oil every 30K and from previous experience I have used MTL for the 6 speeds or the D4ATF. As for the DIff since we do not have the LS I usually used 75w110 or 75-90 for added protection and Redline or Pentosin exclusively. What have you guys used for the 6 speed and how have your results/ shifts been? |

Just crossed this bridge with my car before I hit 60k. I replaced the box with RedLine MTL, and used the OE Diff fluid as it was recommended I do from my Indy shop. Immediately I noticed shifts were smoother after picking it up, but make no mistake, our n20 boxes tend to be pretty notchy. While it was and is a great improvement, don't expect it to make it perfect. I had originally purchased Redline gear oil for the diff per what I found on a DIY on here, but my indy shop called me and told me that it is not a direct replacement to the OE's weight and viscosity. I took the safe route and went with their recommendation, so YMMV.

I went with royal purple transmission fluid and OEM diff fluid (got it in bulk from an indie shop). Shifts improved very slightly, I think the important thing is that you change it and any of the respected fluid brands should do just fine
