Is my Dealer lying - SMS reading and 4 series
Hi,
I am sitting in my local BMW trying to get an issue resolved with my car. My old 4-series used to show an envelope when an SMS came in on a paired phone and i could say "Read messages". This function is missing from my new (2017) BMW. Just spoken to the head of sales, who has said that they have spoken to connected drive and "this function is not available in a 4 series". Can somebody please confirm that this fiuunctionality is still available in a 4-series (2017). Thanks all |

A first thing to check (on the iPhone) if this is an iPhone and you aren't receiving the SMS at all:
>Settings, >Bluetooth >click on the relevant connection 'BMW12345' >ensure 'Show Notifications' is switched on. |

Its an Android. Its the same phone that worked in my old car, and nothing in the phone settings has changed. |

They are muttering that Enhanced BlueTooth is 6NW on my 2017 BMW... but they are saying that the BMW configuration system says it cannot be configured on 4 series cars (or at least on my 2017 4 series).
They also checked out my car to see if "Carplay" (whatever that is) is enabled... and its not. Currently I have a salesman and 2 engineers inside my car. 6NW (according to the BMW web site) is a hardware solution to do with wireless charging, extra microphones etc... which is most likley why it is not allowing them to select it as an option. I assume you have office functionality on the car?
Enhanced Bluetooth only gives you the ability to pair two phones plus extra mic as far as I know. Edit: you must have as it's a 4 series with pro nav - ignore me.

I thought enhanced bluetooth was required.
I have pro nav, but thought this was a functionailty that my car doesn't have. I thought that it could be coded though (but prob not by BMW themselves!). |

So, its all done. My dealer was lying - but put me on the right path. Coded for 6NW, and after a bit of a delay (geting latest data files for e-sys) all coded and office now in place - emails and texts back in my car.
Happy days. Yay Now... onto my wifes |

I think the Iphone also needs to show it as a motivation too, which is 99% likely already enabled.
