Tunes . Best Bang for Buck?

Sooo basically what is the best bang for buck ? i get the more expensive ones are better like the Elite but is there a noticeable difference between a Jb4? Is it worth all the extra money. Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I believe part of the difference in price relates to warranty coverage (which in of itself is a relatively contentious point of debate in other threads)

Hmm.. I'm thinking more of numbers wise. Warranty is a given I guess.

Warranty is a non given .....

JB+ and Dinan Sport are the best bang for the back
JB4 adds more connections and adds possible smoother delivery and more options for added DP etc. (but for a stock car not much different hp figures)
Dinan Elite adds better drive ability and a warranty but not a real change in hp compared to Sport

I meant the debate about warranty is a given. I am leaning more towards the JB4.

There are no flash tunes available as of yet for the B58 on the m240, only piggyback.

Just got myself a JB4 on ebay but as I have no Windows Laptop I would need to get a Bluetooth kit too ..... guess I just get a Dinan Sport as it includes BT and get rid of the JB4 again ... live and learn

There is also the Active Autowerke Active 8.

See this thread for tune comparison (doesn't include Dinan Elite):

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1384817

Regarding Dinan Elite, it connects to 4 sensors: Map, Tmap, intake cam position sensor, and fuel pressure sensor.

- It seems that out of these, the JB4 is most advanced because it has access to the Canbus via ODB, can modify timing, etc., but install takes the longest due to ODB connection. They also update the firmware quite often so you keep having to screw with it if you want the latest and greatest firmware/maps.

- Dinan Elite is probably the most advanced out of the rest as it connects to the most sensors, is RPM based, and can correct fuel trims. It does cost the most though and carries matching factory warranty.

- Active Autowerke seems like a pretty solid compromise since it's a set it and forget it kind of tune and is RPM based so should be smoother than the two cheap options while cost 1/2 of what the Dinan Elite costs. The downside is that it cost more than the JB4 while seemingly less advanced.

- Out of the two cheap options, JB+ and Dinan Sport, take your pick. Both have have concerns about drivability documented on this board, but Dinan Sport connects to both the Map and Tmap sensors (vs JB+ that just connects to Tmap) and boost can be adjusted through Bluetooth.

For these two, if it's a tossup I'd go with Dinan. If for no other reason than if you run into trouble - while not covered by same warranty - you could at least go to a BMW / Dinan shop and have a single person try to help you. I am just guessing but I have a feeling if the shit were about to hit the fan BMW would be more forgiving with Dinan vs other brands that they have no relationship with.

Depends on your mod goals

If you are keeping your car stock, JB+ /Dinan sport

If you are modding in the future JB4

Hittng two buttons on the JB4 app on your smart phone and being directed straight to n54tech.com to a hot link for a hex file which you then click on, hit "update" and wait a whopping two minutes to update firmware is hardly "having to screw with it".

...which requires you buying and installing the Bluetooth add on, which in turn requires you cracking open the JB4 box and splicing a wire which increases the price and install time/complexity of the JB4. Otherwise if you buy the JB4 without the Bluetooth add on, you need to buy a BMS data cable and have a windows laptop.

Don't get me wrong, I think the JB4 is still the best option around at the moment, it's just the other options are simpler when it comes to installing as I mentioned in my post above. Just trying to give the OP a good break-down of what's available.

Overall the jb4 install is very easy, including the Bluetooth add-on. However, be warned if you have a manual the install is a real pain since a thick clutch cable runs through the the engine compartment that one if the wires needs to be fed through. It requires carefully cutting the rubber around and using a coat hanger to fish it through.
