Smartwax worked wonders for my clients vehicles. Or a very light polish... I hope you are talking about the black glossy trim that is between the windows on the coupe...

Yep....my shadowline trim looks like it's two years old already and my car is garage kept and polished weekly. I don't get it.

Have you used it on the shadowline trim?

Found this out by accident today. While applying rainx to the windows, I had some overspray on the trim and noted it removed the water spots. Try a small spot and see what you think.

Anyone figure out what works on removing this? I've tried washing it and everything and it just won't rub off. It's like technicolor. If there's no option I'm having BMW replace it under warranty.

The shadowline trim is crap!! I have it on my 135i and it is ALWAYS messed up. Even when I wax it, it still wont protect the trim. There is actually an advisory out that states bmw to wax it and not replace it. I had my dealership try to get it out but they couldnt. I had them replace the trim...but, get this. On the 135i they had to replace the WHOLE side rear WINDOW!! The trim and window are one piece..isnt that a load of crap!

Since we're on the topic of the black trim.. I noticed I have some light scratches on mine -- probably from when the dealer cleaned it. Anyone know how to safely get it out?

Just slide your fingers in the grove on top of the trim, and apply pressure while slowly pulling it out. use you fingers as a wedge and keep sliding them down until the trip pops out. As for the trim at the base of the front window, put the window down about half way and put a strip of painters tape on the trim and the window for the whole length. when you put the windows up a bit, the trim will come with it. It sounds crazy, but its the safest way so you dont have to pry it out.

Oh sorry, I meant how do I get out the scratches, not remove the trim. I was wondering if I can use some light swirl mark remover to polish it out without messing it up.

I know how to fix the technicolor issue,

first use meg plastX (plastic cleaner) to clean then wax it with a couple of layers of a hard wax, I use zymol concours but it doesn't have to be that fancy, collonite or another will probably work as well.

finally, always hand wash the car, I have found it does the technicolor effect only when going through touchless car washes, probably due to the harsh cleaners used.

let me know how it works out

cheers

I second e90m3s comment. I go to a touchless wash (they never scratch my car) and its no doubt the chemicals in the soap. As stupid as this is, I now bring painters tape and tape off the trim when going there.

You need to use a true polish. If it looks like a rainbow that's because of the soap your'e using, or more likely, the soap the car wash you're going to is using.

I have tried everything and anything in here. Nothing works. I've used meguiars gold class, turtle wax, and zaino. Nothing seems to help/make it better. My top bars that run parallel to the roof (with the bike rack attachment points) are fine and it's the same material from what I hear. I took it to the dealer and they said it's enviromental and they will replace it under waranty because there is no fix for this.

Those are all waxes, all they'll do is make it shiny. You need a polish. Not a cleaner wax, not a glaze, but a true polish.
