800 miles on one tank

Took a ~2400 mile trip in my 328d over the past few weeks. Just got home yesterday and on my last tank I did 790 miles before the fuel light came on. I could have easily gone 840 miles, but since I was near home I went ahead and filled up, having driven 801 miles on that tank. Calculated the tank at 52.7mpg.

When I got the car I didn't expect it to get better fuel mileage than my old VW Golf TDI, but having driven the exact same route with my Golf I know it wouldn't have gotten better than ~44mpg. Totally impressed with what BMW has done with this car..

Also killed a few bugs on the way:

Would have been 52.8 without those bugs!

Crazy good mileage. Sedans, being longer and having better Cd, often get better mileage than short hatches with the same engine.

That is impressive. The best mileage on my 328i was 41mpg, or 4 gallons of AKI 91 for a round tip of 164 miles in Eco mode!

Wow, that's pretty impressive!

I don't have the self control to drive at the speed required on long journeys to get that excellent of a mileage.

That is amazing gas mileage!

The amount of bugs is amazing too, I hope they're gone now.

Holy smokes! That's an amazing MPG! I have a 335i and I'm getting about 24-25mpg with about 85% city driving in San Francisco. So I'm very very impressed with my MPG but 50+ is just astounding!

That must be going at 50 in the highway, you can get run over by doing so. I get 28 mix, having fun on a 340.

What was the average speed? My best tank in my d was about 680 doing 70-75 mph, but I haven't been able to top that, or get anywhere close since then.

I burned a full tank of gas doing about 340 miles from LA to Phoenix (literally... I filled up the day before and the reserve light came on a couple miles before I arrived).

I could probably do much better but I have a compulsive need to do 85-90 on those long stretches of highway and floor the gas whenever I pass left-lane blockers on the right. But if I was a calm and responsible driver I wouldn't have sprung the extra 5k for the 335i.....

Thats why absolutely love my 328d, diesel cost is below regular gas, combined with amazing mileage, and with all that you still getting true BMW experience with the flick of the left paddleshifter.

Average speed was somewhere around 60-65MPH. That includes quite a few stops and even some stop lights. I did an indicated 10MPH over whatever the posted speed limit was (anywhere from 45MPH to 70MPH) which is closer to 7MPH over according to GPS speed.

Here was the route from station to station.

Naw, 10MPH over the posted speed limit, however much of the speed limit was 55MPH, but there was a good bit of interstate as well, so then I was going 80MPH.
