Low cost track wheels?

I need track wheels. I was considering buying nice aftermarket wheels and using the OEM 19s as my track wheels, but I think it would be a better idea to buy some 18" track wheels considering 18" rubber is a lot cheaper than 19" and there's more available. So what are some fairly inexpensive 18" wheels? Light weight would be even better, but I'm sure that's going to cost more.

I would go with 18's - casue of the tires choices. I will likley go with the BFG G-forece R tires/ i am hoping my extra set of e46 M3 wheels with r tires will fit (have som eold SSR's on them) - they are not light but hey were really cheap - plus i kept them when I sold the e46.

Track wheels should be no bigger than 18's.

A great wheel used by many E46 M3 owners for tracking, is the TRMortorsport MT1. You can find them on Tirerack.com.

18x8.5 F and 18x9.5 R or 18x10 R

Only 18.5 lbs per wheel.

~$300 each

the e46 seemed best with a square set up such as 265's at all corners. I wonder if the e92 will be the same.

OK, my car's due into PDC in about a month, so it's time to start planning track wheels/tires.

Has anyone tracked their new M3 with any of the wheel/tire combo's listed in the responses above?

Any consensus on staggered 245 F /265 R vs. square 265 F /265 R?

I'm definitely going with 18's, and have uses Proxes Ra-1 and Nitto NT-01's on my e46 330i, but might try r888s the for the first set on the new M3.

Lemme know your thoughts.

Here are some of those TRM wheels some one else posted... You could always get some BBS CH's but they are not really inexpensive.

RA1 and NT01's don't come in 265's. Only 245 or 275. Need to go to R888's for 255 and 265 size.

Is anyone going to run the same size wheels/tires at all four corners? 8.5" with 245 40 18 or 9.5" with 265/275 30 18? Or custom make 9.0" with 255/265/275. There will be some clearance issues in the front depending on offset. Non staggered is best bet for longevity at a roadcourse. R compound tires are usually 10-20mm wider than street tires in the same size.

I hope to run my four stock rear e46 M3 wheels with 265's all around (currently Dunlop SSR's). since they are left over from my e46 thats about as cheap as you can get.

I'll report when I get a chance to see if they fit. plan on trying on the mini spare also.

The new Advan wheel in the 9.0" ET22 will work great and should fit without a problem in doing the math. Wonder what the price is? If the stock 9.5" ET 23 is used on the front, the clearance will be 7mm closer to the strut and 19mm closer to the outside fender lip. A 9.0" ET 22 will be 1mm farther away from the strut and 13mm closer to the fender lip. That is roughly 1/2" to the outside which should work. Can't want for one of you to try the stock rear wheel on the front and report back. I may want to run a 255 instead of a 265 at all four corners. The 255 will have less sidewall flex on a 9.0 than the 265 which should negate any advantage over the larger size if you are running a 9.0" rim. Of course if the 9.5" fit, than the 265 is a better choice and maybe due to tire offerings a 275 could be run. Does anyone know what the Dinan wheel offsets are for comparison? They seem to fit a rather large combo on the E9x chassis with success.

What are the offsets of those wheels? I don't want to run spacers or hubcentric rings. What is the largest wheel and offset you have fit in the front of the new M3?

I thought about doing the same. I've been looking at E46 M3 wheels because they can be found really cheap. Let me know how they work out.

I'd go with a set of 18" CSL Style Wheels which are affordable at $749 for the set in staggered and are relatively lightweight.

I see front offsets but I don't see rear offsets. Hubcentric? Weight of each front/rear wheel? All offsets available in hyper black? Thx!

Yup, plus there are track wheels out there that are lighter and just as strong as the BBS, for less money.

The Fronts are an 18x8.5 ET40 and rears are an 18x9.5 ET22, ET33 or ET45. I'd recommend the ET22 for the E92 M3.

These are about 24-25lbs per wheel and they are hub centric.
