New to BMW, first dealer service experience
Was Audi/VAG guy for last 15 years. Traded in my Stage 2 TTS and on '14 CPO 428xi M Sport a little over 2 months ago. Have since added M sport diffuser and 335 dual exhaust, Dinan Sport Tuner, M sport pedals, 30% 3m tint and have done a little coding with Bimmercode.
So since I bought the car the left rear parking sensor has been giving a false signal about 80% of the time I put it in reverse. This was happening before I added exhaust and diffuser. I had a headlight go out so took to dealer to replace and asked them to fix the sensor. So I pickup it up today and they fixed headlight but blamed the sensor on my exhaust and diffuser. Service manager gave me bs about exhaust gases could make sensor go off, etc. Total bs. Very frustrated and hope that they don't try to blame any warranty issues in the future on my simple mods. |

if you really want to prove your point, why don't you try covering the left side exhaust and see if the sensor still goes off?
don't cover it for too long ... perhaps you can put some sort of cover to redirect the exhaust fumes straight down or down and under the rear bumper while you try this

Wasn't the stock exhaust on the left? If what the dealer said is true, the stock exhaust would have caused the same problem. Try a different dealer.

Correct COKen. Service Manager was just making up bs excuses. I didn't feel like arguing with the guy. I will go to another dealer in the future.

Out of interest do you notice a better sound on the change to the dual exhaust? Did you mod the 335 exhaust valve too?
Agree that the gasses excuse is total bollocks

Yeah, agree with finding a different dealer. BTW, the left exhaust looks to be slightly lower than the right...maybe? Could just be the picture.
Great looking car! And the golden retriever, too! |

Yes, left is slightly lower than the right and sticks out about 1/2 inch. I plan to address this when I get new BMS tips (on backorder). Sound is a little better and no mod on the valve.
That's my old girl Ginger, she's pushing 14.

Had a BMW Collision Center install the invisihitch while they were replacing the rear bumper. They returned the car with 100% false positive rear parking sensors. Blamed it on the hitch and dug in their heels. Turns out they had failed to install the sensors flush with the bumper. Was a song and dance to get them owning up to their mistake, but they finally did.
Check if yours are flush with the bumper. If you're not sure, go back to the dealer and pull up to another car to compare. If they differ have the SM explain that bit about the exhaust gases and diffuser again. Do note that CPO does not guarantee that your rear bumper was not replaced. Unfortunately if you mod your car in any way it gives the dealership a reason to BS you.
