Is this ok?
Hi all,
Just need some quick advice before I pull the trigger on some tyres. Just bought an F30 330D M-Sport and love it. I part exchanged my E92 335i due to working a lot further from home now. My 335i was the love on my life and I had made many changes to the engine and look of the car. OK, so now the fun starts again with the F30. No engine mods yet, but that will come. My first port of call is the wheels. Current F30 wheels are 225/45/18 front and 255/40/18 rear. both around the 26 inch diameter. Bit different on the F30 to the E92, seeing that the OEM sizes are larger diameter. My E92 run 19 inch BBS CH-R, 8.5 235/35 front and 9.5 265/30 on the rear. I have some new 19's on the way, same size of wheel, but with offset of ET40 front and ET45 Rear. If I run a 265/30 on the rear, the speedo margin is -3% which at higher speeds (70mph) runs approx. 2mph slower. I think the tolerance should be no more than -2.5% I could just do OEM and run 255/35/19 but don't really like high sidewalls seeing that I will be lowering the car soon after. 235/35/19 and 245/35/19 are my choices for the fronts. So what I want to ask, is will a 275/30/19 be ok on the rear? Are my offsets ok on the back wheels ET45 with that width? The tolerance is then up at -2.1% on the speedo reading, which is slight improvement on -3%. Or should I just go 265/30 and not be so OCD about it? :-) Or stick to OEM? Thanks for time and input. For the F30 the following config is spot on:
Front - 19x8.5 ET 35 w/ 235/35r19 Rear - 19x9.5 ET 45 w/ 265/30r19 Tire size depends on tire brand and personal preference. I like meatier. Wheel diameter doesn't matter as long as you keep the offsets proportional to wheel width. These are my stock style 397's with plus size 235/45r18 (I have 8" all around). My car is dropped on H&R Sport springs. Oh and btw, speedo is only 1MPH fast @ 120MPH.

Cheer for the info, Chubby.
I went for the 265's so now looking forward to the mods to start again. How do you find the H&R's? I love the stance they give. My E92 had KW Street comforts coil overs, and were fantastic. Don't really want to spend over a grand again, so am just looking at springs for the time being. |
