upgrading from 435ix
Currently driving a 2014 435ix pretty much loaded.
My dealer knows I've been looking for a newer m3 cpo Got a call saying they got in a 2013 m3 coupe, comp package, navi, backup cam with only 20k miles in...and CPO'd. I initially said no as I was more interested in the newer ones I6 vs V8. Does anyone have any experience with the older S65 with DCT? interior looks different despite only 1 year apart. unsure how tech is as I love the HUD in my 2014. Anything to look out for as I usually buy new, just want to make sure I can pick out if it was tuned or abused. I do have a BMW scanner Does anyone think it worth getting the older v8 or waiting for the turboI6 m3s? I figure v8 would be easier to work on vs turbos in the long run. Any info onthe DCT? from what I could find, could cost 10K if the DCT goes...especially if it was highly modified. Any info would be appreciated. |

Backstory: Brother had a '11 E92 M3 DCT w/ Competition package, I currently drive a '15 435i Msport/MPPK/MPE. I'd highly recommend waiting for the prices of the F80 to come down. I absolutely loved driving the E92 and I'd say its one of my favorite cars to date, but there's no way I'd ditch the tech and refinement of the F32 for the E92. Couple points to consider:
Why to keep the 435i: - Much better interior and technology: HUD, newer iDrive, Harmon/Kardon, safety tech, newer instrument cluster is miles ahead of the E92s) - Smoother transmission: E92 was the first BMW DCT. It's not nearly as refined as the DCT in the F80 and much more jerky than the ZF 8 Speed in the F32. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's definitely more brutal. The DCT works very, very well when you're driving spiritedly and on good roads, not in traffic or at slow speeds. Downshifts are instant, you can skip 2 gears without any delay, perfectly rev matched. It's not perfect, but its pretty great. However, the ZF 8 speed in the F32 is much smoother as it's a traditional automatic with a torque converter. - Gas mileage: maybe not everyone cares about this, but the E92 pales in comparison to the efficiency of the Turbo 6 - Torque: F32 has peak torque throughout the power band, whereas the E92 reaches peak torque way up past 4-5k rpm, and only gets 295 lb ft, compared to the 332lb ft from 1750rpm in the 435i with MPPK Why you should consider the E92: - Handling: its an M3, nothing more to say here. - Redline: Absurdly high at 8400RPM, nothing more fun than revving it out - Brutality: The M3 is brutal, both in good and bad ways. On good roads, you'll love it, on bad roads and in traffic, you'll hate it. The F32 is a much better all around car in that respect - Sound: It's a naturally aspirated V8. Rev-matched downshifts sound incredible. Overall, doesn't make sense (in my eyes) to back a generation, given that you love the newer technology and refinement of the F32. Definitely wait for the F80. |

Got to finally drove a 13 m3 coupe. Not going to lie, I hated it and I even revved it out to redline on a few occasions. They have me a he'll of a price, but I think I'll wait for an f80. I think I would miss the heads up display and the low end grunt for passing

Only reason to get the older M3 is the better sounding engine
Everything else is outdated and there is a huge power gap between the 2 generations (stock and modded)
