Does your tint do this also?
Got some 20% put on last saturday, overall they did a decent job except for one spot on the driver window that i'm hoping will dry out soon. I'm guessing its near impossible to get a clean edge on this ripple patter that we have?
I wanted to see if any of you guys found a solution or if it is just something we gotta live with. I'll attach a pic below. View post on imgur.com |

That's really common. There is a trick to doing that right using some special glue. Not all installers bother to do it the right way though. And even with it done "right" the results aren't always perfect.

The only reason I have yet to tint my windows.
Have not gotten an answer if this is even possible to deal with 100%. Its called dot matrx, and I find it super unattractive. I have seen posts about using glue or heat to deal with it, but even those were not 100% solutions. |

I've only used 2 different tinting shops over the 16 years I've owned BMWs, and both of them had learned how to work with the "dot-matrix" that is present on our glass. The film itself and the careful use of heat to make it conform to the surface are the biggest factors. Not all films are pliable enough to conform, but Pinnacle F1 ceramic film seems to work well on my F30 and wife's F23. If after 2 weeks you still have this issue, return your car to your tinter and request that they correct the situation. A good tint shop will have no problem doing so without charging you.

Some films deal with the dot matrix better than others. It mainly has to do with the thickness of the film glue layer. If it's thick enough it will fill in the matrix, if not it won't. Experienced shops would have learned which films work well and which don't. It's not a BMW problem, every car manufacturer today uses dot matrix glass. You can work around it on side windows by adding clear glue to the matrix during installation to fill it in better, but that's almost impossible with rear windows because you just can't reach it.

Mine is fine; they did neglect one bubble on the passenger side front window that drives me crazy every time I see it though lol..the rest is perfect. I could probably take a pin and possibly get rid of it but it's been too long and I'd hate to have it catch the door and tear. I just live with it.

Im going to go back in 2 weeks then. I regret going to that shop now. They had good reviews but i got a bad vibe. They didnt indulge me with any info whatsoever about types of tint or brands. I dont even know what brand mine is. They left greasy whatever running down my doors and everything. Im pretty pissed about it now.

Someone needs to invent transitions tint that's auto dimming based on daylight or headlight glare and can be controlled on demand in states where you can't tint the front windows or if you want to tint for privacy like making out with your girl in the back seat or while driving. Though some like PDA while behind the wheel.

Electrically controlled tints exist. One example:
Adding a sensor to automatically adjust it to ambient light conditions with manual override wouldn't be at all difficult. |
