How is F30 2013 335i reliability?? 50k miles +

Hi,

Im looking to buy a car, among what im looking one choice would be a used F30. It' a x drive 335i loaded with all the M stuff.

It has 51k miles. How reliable are they from 50 to 90k? My e93 was a piece of s***, are they significantly more reliable?

Thank you,
Dan

The F3x and E9x are completely different cars, most significantly in the drivetrain. The N55 engine is more refined than the N54 and even the 1st-gen N55, and (assuming the one you're looking at has it), the 8-Speed auto trans is much better than the GM-sourced 6-speed auto in the E-chassis cars. I've had way less problems with my F30 335i than I did with my E92 335i.

I'm at 127,000km FBO and absolutely no problems. I drive my car hard and track it occasionally.

Just have to do the same and it'll be fine. if you baby your car and rarely WOT, it's probably going to cause problems in the future as the car won't be used to the stress.

You mean General Motors? I'm surprised they would use an American tranny in a BMW. The only reason I can see Dodge using the ZF in the Challenger Hellcat is because of Fiat but BMW isn't owned by Ford or GM.

Yes, unfortunately that's accurate. Remember, GM is a global car company, and they produce cars in Europe as well as other countries. It surprised me as well, although my previous E92 was a 6MT car. I expect Dodge/Chrysler uses the ZF because it's cheaper than them designing their own transmission capable of holding up under that much horsepower.

I'm glad these cars have been holding up relatively well compared to the E90. I just clicked over to the forum just now to remind myself of the boatloads of issues many of those cars are having and relatively few issues on the F30 even as it is coming to the end of it's production life cycle and there are plenty of high mileage examples on the road. There are plenty of high mileage E90s that have held up as well, but more problems on average.

The 328s E9x cars had GM transmissions. The 335s were ZF.

I own both, an E90 335i and a F30 335i and both are reliable, the F30 by the way is more refined in any way !
