M Performance Exhaust - M235 vs M240

so I was trying to figure out a few things on the exhaust set up and differences between the N55 and B58.

could you fit the M240 MPE on the M235 and what the differences are etc. Why is there and Akrapovic for the 240 and not the 235.

I read a number of threads on here about exhausts and intakes and what to do to make the car louder and sound better.

realoem is a gem of information when you open two webpages side by side and compare cars ie. 240 vs 235 vs M2.

The centre pipes are different between the two cars, it looks like the 240 is one straight pipe from cat to muffler and has larger first resonator in the pipe, where the 235 has a smaller first one located close to the cat, then the second resonator in the same place, but the pipe split into two sections.

it also appears that the muffler hang off locations are the same

so the 235 MPE retains the exhaust flap and is controlled as the stock exhaust to open and close.

the 240 MPE doesn't have the exhaust flap - you get supplied with a dummy flap control unit to plug the cable into -

so install the 240 MPE on the 235 and flap stays open all the time as its not there!

what you guys think?

was also thinking for those doing the flap open for the 235 by just removing the actuator control and worried about the connection, just buy the dummy actuator control and plug it in - sorted.

Product number: 18-30-2-411-427
cost £18 in the UK.

I think I will give this a go first.

then just buy the M235 MPE and use this dummy control on it. - sorted.

Hasser,

Photos below show the differences between F2x n55 and B58 systems - N55 - above - and B58 below

Looking at rear muffler/silencer - angle of pipe into the box differs between N55 and B58 - fitting a B58 MPE onto an N55 might not work as simple PnP....

thanks for the photos helps a lot.

that extra muffler on the B58 must make the m240 a bit quieter? than the M235, maybe that's why the MPE on the B58 240 has no valve.

I have had several people at my local autocross tell me that my M240 sounds like a beast when I put my foot in it. Recently I was at an autocross with someone with an M235. Someone working the course said that my M240 sounded way more aggressive than the M235. I bought my car with 5000 miles on it and as far as I know it is completely stock. It was an executive demo. How would I know if I have the MPE (I wasn’t provided with any sort of controller, but maybe even staying closed all the time it is louder than stock)? The exhaust tips look stock so it doesn’t seem likely that anything was upgraded unless somebody put the tips back to stock before turning it in . Anyone else heard them side-by-side?

Get under the car and look at the muffler.

I have no problem doing that but what the F am I looking for? There isn’t anything standing out under there so I thought it might be a little more subtle. Just like you

The MPE for the N55 (M235i) engine has a plate on it to identify it. The standard exhaust does not.

Well that rules it out I guess. It must just be the dfference between the m235 and m240 systems
