Tinting
Hey all, I'm looking to tint for UV and heat protection in Toronto (GTA in general). I don't like the look of dark tinted glass so I was looking at 3 different ones. The 3 I was looking at are 3M Crystalline 90 or 70, LLumar Air 80 or 90, XPEL Prime XR. I hear good things about 3M but can't find any installer in the GTA in Toronto that does (can someone recommend one?), though I could find one that does 70 in Mississauga. Does anyone have a recommendation between the 3? I seem to find more positives of 3M vs LLumar but is it a better product? I can't seem to find much of anything for Prime XR because as I understand it, it's a newer product.
Can anyone provide insight between the 3 and any recommended place that does 3M if it's the best product? I'm looking for minimal darkness, UV and heat protection, and clear colour. |

Formula One is Llumar's ceramic product. Llumar products are my choice. I've been using Llumar for umpteen jillion years and never been disappointed.

So it seems then you guys recommend the Air then from LLumar. Thanks then! Question though, I found out apparently I'm not allowed to tint my windshield in my province. Will not tinting the windshield have a big impact on heat?

Not enough to skip tinting altogether.

The guy who tints all my cars has his own shop and he raves up and down about Llumar. That air is supposed to be great stuff. He puts it on all his windshields, but it is pricey.
Although it is not legal for you, I don't know how any officer would even know - tint that light would be impossible to notice with an untrained eye. it is only blocking 10 or 20% of visible light. The windshield is the piece of glass that lets in the most heat as it has the most direct exposure to the sun, so based on your goals, I would tint all around with the Llumar air. It will look effectively stock and reduce the heat by a ton.

Not sure if this is a dumb question but is there a difference between Llumar Air and Air Blue? I see both mentioned online. Are they the same thing?

I have 3M Crystalline 40 and it's good stuff. Lumar also has an excellent reputation.
Up in Toronto you don't need to squeeze every last bit of protection so either would be fine. I'd make the decision based on the shop's reputation first, then go with either 3M or Lumar depending on which they carry. When you drop in to talk to the shop, ask them how they handle the fret (i.e the black dot-matrix on the glass) and what to expect in terms of how the final installation will look on it in particular. |
