BMW Automatic Braking, Auto Pilot

Do any of you know if BMW has automatic braking and auto pilot? Is this available on F30? It seems there are autonomous features on the new 5 series, but now sure about auto braking. Seems every other auto maker has this but I haven't seen anything like this demoed in any video.

Look at the Driving Assistance Plus Package. It does have the auto-braking feature, although I don't think it will stop the car completely.

It has lane departure, blind spot, auto braking, and adaptive cruise control. All which annoy me. I had it on my 2014, and didn't order it on my 2015.

However top down camera, and the cameras on my front fenders are my favorite.

It does. My 2014 335i is fully loaded, with automatic cruise control and driver's assist. Not sure which one has the auto braking. The car can and will brake to a full stop if needed. It will also brake HARD to avoid a collision. It's probably saved me from rear ending someone once or twice when traffic on the freeway went from 65 to 0.

The only cars with auto pilot are the experimental self-driving cars now being tested. I think you meant something else.

exactly. I sometimes use my ACC in city driving and it will completely stop my 2016 330e with the driver assistance, driver assistance plus and ACC packages when the car in front of me stops at a red light or a stop sign.

No Tesla has auto pilot on their production cars, heck even the Honda Civic has auto pilot and can brake to a full stop and maintain distance with adaptive cruise.

I don't have driver assistance package, so far haven't rear ended anyone but maybe had a couple close calls. Might get it in my next car unless it's super annoying, or set it to not brake until the last possible moment, setting a closer follow distance, etc.

I don't think it does on the 3/4 series, but it does stop on the 5 series.
On the 5 series with Driving Assistance Plus it avoids an accident with a 50kph delta.

Auto pilot give you the ability to take your hands off the wheel and let the car drive itself, just as auto pilot in an aircraft allows the pilot to take his hands off the yoke and let the plane fly itself. If anyone is calling something that doesn't do that an auto pilot they need to consult Funk and Wagnalls. I know Tesla has the hardware installed for auto pilot, but AFAIK it's not yet legal to use it other than in testing. As of now self-park is all the consumer can actually do hands-off.

There's a story floating about of a woman driving a Winnebago who sets the cruise control, then leaves the drivers seat to go to the back of the RV to make a cup of coffee, with predictable results. The story goes that she tried to sue Winnebago for selling a defective product.

Scared the bejesus out of me when my 1 month old 340i xDrive decided to suddenly warn with a red sign on the HUD and a loud beep and auto brake when I was approaching a car in front of me that was slowly turning into a side street. I was just about to brake when it did it for me.

I have the driver assistant package on my manual transmission and the only feature which doesn't work is the adaptive cruise control.

I think that's the same woman who tried to dry her poodle in the microwave oven.

What a maroon. Should have put it in the clothes dryer, using the fluff cycle.

I remember when I bought my first F30 in 2014 the information was severely lacking and the dealer and brochures were of no help.

Now with my 2nd F30 I worked it out.

ACC will brake to a standstill BUT this is not the same as the collision warning/braking.

If you have ACC the car will brake and reduce your speed only. It will not emergency brake to a standstill.

If no ACC all you will get is an acoustic warning and the red car symbol.

The G30 5-series has some automated driving features that were previously only available on the 7-series. Very likely when the 3 and 4-series migrate to the G-chassis, those features may be offered as options. Not for me, though. I'd rather do my own driving, thank you.

True auto pilot is a matter of when, not if, and it does have it's advantages. A driver only has two eyes, both pointed in the same direction, while a car can have many cameras and other sensing devices. A computer also doesn't have bad judgement, or testosterone fueled male ego. New York City would be totally transformed if all cabs were equipped with auto pilot and their horns were all removed. And what about Massachusetts, where one has to flunk an IQ test to get a drivers license?

I think ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) is a phenomenal convenience and safety feature for cars, and I'm a 6MT guy. My wife's Volvo has it and it is not only convenient, but more importantly it's always looking/watching traffic, even if you're not (when you look away or get distracted).

I considered an 8AT when I bought my 2014 but only if it had ACC. But they were SO rare, I only found 2 with that option over a 6 month period.
