Lease tire return requirements

Hey guys,
I have summer staggered setup with Bridgestone Potenza S001's RFTs. While I find them fine as far as ride comfort, they seem to have worn out rather quick. They have about 15k miles and will need to be replaced in another 2-3k miles. My question is, if I replace them with all season Driveguard tires, with same staggered sizes, could I return the lease with them on or would the return need to be Summer type tires ?

Reason I ask is I hope driveguards can last longer and I might get away replacing tires once, while with another summer tires I might need to do it twice by the time lease is up.

Lease needs to be returned with the same tire type (size, speed rating, runflat and star-approved). The only thing you can change is the tire brand but everything else needs to stay the same.

They just need to be run flats in the same size with minimum tread requirement.

Probably. I think you'd probably have a little better chance if you replaced with a high performance all season RFT.

maybe take the ones you have on now and "hold them" till the lease is up; and put your choice of tire on now. This way you can enjoy 3 years of driving on the tires you want and then at the end of lease throw back on the original 'stored tires'

^ this. If your current tires still have enough tread to be acceptable for lease return then just replace them now and hold them until it's time to return the car.

You could also buy a set of USED tires that are lease return acceptable when you turn the car in.

I've never seen the "star approved" requirement verified on these forums. The lease language that's been posted says "similar in quality" or something vague like that.

Similar question: Requirements for lease turn in with regard to aftermarket exhaust components? I'm considering a Dinan midpipe and would like hear about thoughts on how this would impact my lease return.

Thanks guys. The Driveguards are RFTs as well but it sounds like I will need to return the car with Summer tires, as it came with those. I guess I'll likely be looking for used staggered set when ready for return. Probably not going to be easy but will have to wait and see.

High performance All Seasons should get the job done if you want to go that route. They're going to be looking more at tread depth and overall condition rather than checking to see if they're summer tires. They need to have the same speed rating as the factory tires.

Its my understanding they look for the star. Best plan is when you get the car break it in on the factory tires. Pull them off for what you want & store them.

Put them back on for turn in. Its very unlikely you will not need to change the original tires to make tread requirements especially with summer tires.

On my last car I let the original tires wear down to nothing and then bought a set of used summer RFTs for like $400, mounted. Returned the car with them. This one I think I am going to pull these Contis while they still have some tread on them (because they suck so bad) and get a new set of better tires at the end of the year if they even last that long. My pirelli Cinturato P7s on my last car lasted over 20k miles with hard driving. These have 6k miles on them and are already down to like 6-7/32. Unreal. Also really noisy and with a rough ride.

^This is what I have done for my previous lease returns.
