New addition to the M stable
I was lusting after the M2 when they came out but didn't find the right opportunity to purchase one. Markups were plentiful (especially in Southern California) and inventory was low. I gave up on the car in hopes that maybe down I could pick one up. Long story short, I was at my local bmw dealer picking up some oil for one of my other cars and they just so happen to have a Mineral grey M2 in DCT in stock. I had never seen one or even sat in one before today but they were nice enough to let me have a go. I let the SA know that the car was awesome but I really wanted a manual one. After looking around some more they actually had a customer canceled order that was on hold for someone else (Car had a sold tag on it but was already a few days expired) Alpine White, 6mt, executive package. Exact way I would have spec'd it myself. Ended up driving the car home (along with my 6 qt's of 10w 60)
Other M's in the garage

I got mine through a similar experience. Dealer said he pre-sold his 2 allocations as soon as he got them. I drive by the dealer on 3/18 and see an MG M2. I go in and ask the Sales Mgr. (friends with him) what gives? He said he got the car 2 days earlier & the pre-sale customer backed out 2 days before that & ordered another with a Europe delivery. It had all options along with MPE w/CF tips, CF spoiler & black grills. I drove it & liked the sound more in person but couldn't do much because of break in. I was only halfway into my 3 year lease on my loaded 535i M Sport & mulled it for a week. I bought it on 3/25 because it is a great car (according to my reading and Youtube reviews) & somewhat rare.

The e46 is my all time favourite. I've owned a few M cars and that's the one I miss the most. I am going with an M2 simply because I don't have the time to put the work in anymore.
How would you compare the two cars?

I'm noticing... dealer stories of backed out orders seem very abundant regarding M2's. My experience was opposite. I was presented with a PE in manual but I wanted MG DCT and that car was also a backed out order with a red tag saying SOLD.

Hon, did you shop by the dealer and get the oil?
I sure did How much was it? About $60 (thousand gets whispered) oh that's not so bad! Its nice when you surprise yourself sometimes! Congrads on the new M, now you just need a bigger garage! ...is there any chance they give you the 6 qts of 10w60 for free? Last edited by dtmurf; 06-02-2017 at 12:35 AM.. Reason: type-o |

Congrats on the M2. We almost have the same cars in the garage - except the elephant in the room, the M5, which is completely out of my range
