Remote dealer deliver to local dealer.

I have ordered a F30 335d from a dealer over 200 miles away. At the time I asked if the car could be delivered to a more local dealership, was told that the paperwork should really be signed on site? Has anybody else had tried this service and is there any reason why the car can't be delivered to a different dealer if the contract is with BMW FS?
TIA for any advice.

Your finance contract maybe via BMWFS, but it would of been applied for through the dealer you ordered from. BMW dealers are franchised, are effectively ran independently. They only normally move stock around to dealers within there own group.
We bought a car though 200 miles away and they delivered it to the home address. We signed paperwork through email but wasn't financed.

My concern would be that it complicates matters if there was some damage to the car which you spot during handover. If you collect from the supplying dealer then its very clear where responsibility lies.

I once bought a few month old approved used BMW from a dealer a few hundred miles away without seeing it first. On delivery to my house, I found several scratches on the paintwork and it was complicated to resolve. I would only collect a car in person from the supplying dealer now.

I signed the order form through email, but I am getting it on finance

Why did you buy it from a dealer 200 miles away?

I travelled a hundred and something miles to collect mine. No way I would buy a new car and not pick it up in person, A to make sure all is OK B for the new car pick up experience C, driving home gets you used to the car and makes a dent in the run in period!

They did also offer a delivery option or a hotel stay the night before which was good.

Just to add, we drove to see the car and made sure it was as described as it was approved used and then organised the delivery when we were there.

I picked up my F30 from Sytner, Birmingham in February. From Dundee, that's a 400 mile journey. Sytner did offer to meet me halfway to do the exchange as I was trading in my M235i. There was no finance involved but they were buying my car on my word without ever seeing it and I wanted to make sure there were no issues with the condition of the car versus my description.
It all worked out well and I had a 400 miles return journey to get the feel of the car and run in as I wanted, not how the dealer might have thought appropriate.

After contacting several dealers it was the best deal for me at the right time.

You make some very valid points. It's not a massive distance granted. Especially to get such a good car. We'll maybe make a weekend if it as we'll be travelling down by train as there is no trade involved

It's Sytner in Sheffield that I'm am purchasing through. I'm sure the drive back north will allow me to get used to the extra power from what I've driven previously

Good point. I'll maybe take the hit and travel down. The journey home should be a lot more fun than the journey down 😃

Yep, best to make that journey. I drove to Hallewell Jones North Wales for my first F30 but my LCI was bought from Stratstone Harrogate but was transported up to Evans Halshaw Ford (Part of the same group) up here in Edinburgh. I still had the remainder of the deposit to pay and if there was anything wrong it was staying there and no deposit balance was going to be paid.

Still got remainder of deposit to pay and my other half has decided we are making a weekend of it 😬 Maybe a wee overnight stay in Manchester before getting train to Sheffield (priced train tickets and it's 1/3 of the cost splitting up the journey)

Speak to the dealer. Halliwell Jones offered me a hotel. Didn't take it though.
