Niggle 2: USB map updates via Windows only

Going to Spain and Portugal shortly so keen to ensure up to date maps. Took some time for me to find where on the website to access USB updates. But in speaking to Connected Drive customer support they revealed that the Update Manager which needs to be downloaded is Windows only. They gave me a link to use on iMac but that is for Parallels costing £57, with a Windows purchase then required, I believe.

I was aware of over-the-air updates for region. I thought that these were necessarily UK for me. The good news seems to be that I can apparently select from 6 regions. One of these includes Spain so I will try that, but do not know how I will know if successful. But Portugal is in none of the regions.

But this is still all much better than some years ago when buying an update disk for a single region cost more than £100!

You can use virtual box from Oracle, it is a free virtual machine engine similar to parallels. Then you install windows (you can find an installer directly from Microsoft) in a vm, you don't need to provide a licence key during a grace period of several month, and from that vm you should be able to execute the update manager you need.

As a mild techno-phobe I may just try to borrow someone's laptop! But if I attempt your helpful suggestion, will the update manager continue to work on the iMac when Windoes stops working?

Forgive me for being stupid but can't you update the car through a phone link ?
Do the dealers update each service ?
If they don't presumably they would if one asked nicely.....
Sounds a bit complicated to me

No and NO
No they will not update a full map, it's 28G+ and takes hours to download @ 30M/sec onto a 64G USB.

Windows will not stop working : after the grace period you will messages that your copy of windows may be counterfeit, but you can ignore it if you just use that VM for your software. You can also delete the VM and create a new one, starting from scratch.

And yeah I know it is quite techy but not that complicated
