Wind Noise

Have any members experienced very slight but enough to turn the radio up wind noise from their E92 coupe's?
I notice it at speeds up from 50mph & it sounds as if there is a minute gap (not enough for water leaks or seal renewal) along the top of the door glass.
It seems to be getting worse, my coupe is 1 year old with 9k on it.

Cheers

Mine was becoming worse before I traded it in, but I did notice that the drivers door looked as if it needed 'nipping up' to fit flush with the beginning of the seam on the next panel. Also read on here a while back, something to do with the door seals? May be worth doing a search.

I've had wind noise form the day I got it. No door frames doesn't help and from, ahem, let's speculate at 80 upwards it could be quite annoying.

Very large doors. Over time they are going to lower I guess.

Interesting post this, during leathering mine off last night I noticed the drivers side window didn't press as hard up against the seal as the passenger side, I put this down to the drivers door having been used more. It hasn't manifested itself into wind noise yet though.

Don't know whether this is the same for BMW but with other marques the windows learn the range of operation. Usually you can reset it by holding the switch down in each direction for a few seconds after it has reached the full up or down position. Might be worth a try in case it is slightly out.

Steve I knew you programme them to go all the way up or down,in the way you decribe, but thought there was a micro switch that told them when to stop.

There might be but I would try it anyway. The range learning is supposed to take into account that the seals may change slightly over time which can be compensated for. Perhaps just 1 mm change could cause an imperfect seal. A microswitch wouldn't achieve that so on a prestige car I would expect it to learn the positions.

thanks for your feedback guys, at least i know others do it, i went to my dealer & road tested it with a technician, he agreed that there was excessive wind noise & told me that the glass alone can be adjusted to tilt towards the body pushing tighter against the seal. Its now booked in to have the glass adjusted so i will give feedback on the results.

I had a similar problem coming from the front of my car (E90) at 83-86mph. I examined the front of the vehicle and found a small square hole at the front of the underpan as it connects to the front bumper, dead center. It reminded me of the little square hole in a toy whistle. After a trial with some duct tape (close match to my TiAg) the noise was gone.

I have not checked if any other vehicles have this small access port, but it may fix the problem.

The seals are made out of a strange rubber on the E92 which is probably cheap. You can give them a wipe down with a damp cloth and this helped give mine a cleaner seal and stopped some of the noise. Do not use any silicon rubber/cleaning products on them as it can make the situation worse apparently.

Angry *UPDATE*

Well my coupe has been in to the dealer to have the wind noise sorted & suprise suprise, they havnt fixed it!!
I got some fob off story that the door seals has dropped down slightly at the front so they refitted them, what a load of bull.
I can see that the door glass on both doors does not go all the way up into the seal, that is where the wind noise is comming from. With the window all the way up when the door is closed, from the rear top corner of the glass,if i run my finger nail along where the glass sits in the seal,as i get nearer the front,i can feel a gap between the top of the glass & the seal (there is no gap at the rear), its as if the regulator (glass mounting) needs adjusting & lifting up inside the door at the front. When i pointed this out to the service guy he just looked very confused
Why do we get such crap service from BMW dealers, are they all useless in the UK??
