Like the List
However - WP /Thermostat replacement at 50k is a little early.
I am thinking 70-75K AND TIE IN A COOLANT CHANGE since the fluid will be drained plus the OFHG (both gaskets) also for the same coolant drain issues. . Also, tie in the Walnut blast since on a 335i the hidden fastener behind the Oil Filter Housing under the intake manifold has to at least be loosened. So - YEA. 75k: OFHG (2) on cars with Ext OIL Cooler Walnut Blast Coolant Change WP & Thermo * I would not even look at the starter till 150k |

And almost none are covered by warranty or maintenance. Haven't looked in my wife's 328xd book, but my 2010 Maintenance/Warranty booklet has BMW's schedule. For instance, oxygen sensors seem to be lasting well over your limit; they will also set a CEL when they fail. Why change them when they're still good? Starters don't wear out; the one on my 335d has 119K on it, the one in my '91 525i was still good at 200K, the one on my '01 330xi had 145K when traded in. And that is an expensive job to do (have to remove the intake). 50K miles for suspension? Has been twice that (or more) in the past. |

My car is beyond its warranty so none of it is covered by BMW. Also, with the exception of the walnut blast I do all of the maintenance myself which lowers costs quite a bit. |

You are correct, nearly all of the above items are not covered by BMW. I've been burnt by a bad starter before and gotten stranded so I replace it sooner. Plus, an OE starter is 210$ and my labor is free so its not all that expensive. Also, I shop of fcpeuro.com so I just mail parts back and get new ones for free - you really cant beat it. I track my car frequently so 50k for the suspension seems right for me. Last edited by Leib-Husaren; 05-16-2017 at 06:04 PM.. |

Meaning they don't really follow a written down set of intervals but instead rely on the car computer to tell them what needs to be changed. If the computer has not alerted them to perform a maintenance they won't do it. The car computer uses a combination of sensors and algorithm to determine (based on your driving) if something needs to be replaced. HOWEVER, there is a small list of items such as cabin filter, spark plugs, wipers etc that they do change on a set interval...this info is in your service/warranty booklet. My experience is that the dealership isn't always savvy on these maintenance items so you need to remind them AND show them the booklet in order to get them to do the service. A lot of things such as coolant, tranny fluid, and diff fluid are considered "lifetime" so they will not cover those under the free maintenance plan. The joke is that "lifetime" tends to mean the lifetime of the warranty and not necessarily the lifetime of your car. Plenty of info on the internet in regards to these "lifetime fluids" do your own research and determine if you want to pay to have these done or not.
