BMW fires

In the last couple of days there seems to be some bad press in the States about a significant number of BMW cars bursting into flames when turned off. Anyone have more details on this?

Is that what you're referring to?

Seems like nothing to me as the models involved are all different and are all different ages.

Would only bother me if it were all F30s, for example.

And I notice the car illustrating that story appears to be a fake M3 so it seems fairly likely to have been buggered about with:

The exhaust and lack of spoiler looked wrong to me, but having googled it, I'm not so sure now.

The boot spoilers were optional on the Saloon and Coupe and not available for the convertible....

One of the most common causes of car fires is down to a car harness, on old cars once the ignition was turned off, then nothing flowed through the harness.

With more modern cars various systems are semi active and drawing current, the older a car gets or the more it's buggered about with the (small risk) risk of a fire is increased.

However, I prefer the Helmut story

It does seem a bit odd to feature a picture of a 20yr old car bursting into flames.
