Replacement screen - advice?

Picked up a crack in the windscreen yesterday, will need to replace the screen before I hand the car back.

I don't have HUD, just dancing lights.

I'm insured with Admiral; I'm not sure who their approved repairers are, wondered if anyone had any advice?

TIA

They use autoglass. Was in the same position as you a couple of months back. Call admiral up, they direct you straight to autoglass over the phone, book in a smart repair if possible. If they can't fix it they replace the windscreen. I insisted on genuine BMW glass and they approved as the car was less than 3 years old.

I'm with Admiral and had one done in January. I asked for BMW glass which was not a problem.

They referred me to Autoglass who are a shower if idiots and and after 2 failed visits and then turned up with a damaged screen I asked to go somewhere else. Ended up being referred to Nationwide who replaced it with genuine glass - first time - no issues.

Had mine replaced last month by Autoglass. Cant really fault them at all to be fair.

I asked about genuine BMW glass and while not saying it was impossible they said more complicated as insurer would have to authorise it and therefore would take longer.

As I needed the car I took the Pilkington glass they had in stock and had it fitted within a few days (after a failed attempt to repair the original chip).
For me, having what is essentially an identical screen minus a tiny BMW logo isn't a problem, especially with only a few months of warranty remaining.

I'm with LV who use Autoglass, got a genuine screen although it took over a week for them to authorise it with LV and order in. Fitter was really nice guy, all done without complaint.

All sounds pretty straightforward; cars likely to be going back in a few months so a non-BMW screen should be fine.

Appreciate everyone's contributions

I had mines done recently as well. Also with Admiral who use Autoglass or Nationwide Windscreens. Didn't get an BMW Genuine logo one but my car had just ran out of warranty so it didn't bother me too much. Process was pretty simple and easy.

Got insurance to provide me non bmw screen, I am fussy and after it was installed couldn't tell difference

Of course I made sure that it had 1. Correct Sun block tint strip on top and 2. Tint extending down to where rain sensor is.

Just out of interest did it take longer to get it replaced because of the tinted strip(I have the same)as I need to replace mine before swapping for the M140i which due in about 10days.

+1....other than different insurers but otherwise almost identical circumstances to TEASTON !

'Original' BMW screens are actually made by Pilkington anyway, according to the Autoglass fitters and would appear to be correct as my screen has the 'Pilkington' reference on the glass beside the BMW roundel !!!

+2 Same as teaston and bmnut . With LV, no issues in getting original OEM glass, which only took a day extra. Fitter really friendly and did a neat and tidy job.
