Window problem

Okay so not sure if this has came up before I've got a 2012 f30 and about a month ago I tried putting my window up on drivers side, window came up, and then came back down about 4 inches tried again and again until finally after keeping it down for a while n doing it in small bursts it came up fully, doesn't do it all the time just every now and then now the passenger side has started doing same, anyone else had this ?I've rang Williams they said they can fix it by reprogramming it for £169 anyone else thinks it may be hardware problem not software?

try resetting the windows ... push down the button to roll down the windows and keep pushing it down for 20-30 seconds ... then put the window up again

IIRC there was a number of F30's affected by this issue. The window regulator was replaced by the dealer. See here: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=736824

Thanks mate no real answer tho, my car is out of warranty BMW went to charge me a hours labour to diagnose n reprogram the windows, but my worry is that if they do so and I still have issue I'm 170 down and no better off then I will have to go buy new regulators and fit them myself, if it's a common issue to BMW is there anyway I can get this fixed by them for free ?

Yup - as Broken_Gearbox says - known issue. Had this too on my 62 plate F30 (come to think of it, that fcuking car was riddled with faults....)

Window first started playing up and then completely died within a week. Drivers side regulator replaced under warranty.

Have you had a horn die yet OP? That will be next.........

Surely if after investigation and a reprogram, the problem is not fixed, then they have not provided the service you paid for? If their investigation was done properly, then they would know if they reprogram would work or not, and if they say it will, then it does not, you shouldn't have to pay. Its their fault for getting it wrong, not yours.

My thoughts exactly mate, gonna see what happens I just hate having to get into arguments with dealers over wanting £100s for no further info

I have not done one myself... at this stage you want to find out if your VIN is one of the cars that may have been affected and there is no charge for this check... if it is then you go to the dealer and it is done without quibble... warranty or not. They are more likely to play ball if you do have some kind of warranty or good service history in place.

If you have any fault codes you can use to back you up then that can help to counter unnecessary diagnostic costs. It is basically you going in with the code and saying... here is the code... this is the problem... it is a common issue...

Having said that the job can be done as a DIY if you are confident removing the door trim... an independent garage should be able to do it too if DIY is not your thing... we're probably talking 1.5 hours labour tops + part + VAT

Don't stick with the same dealer either, although you may have to in this case. I had a fault with the IDrive and locations not being sent.

Dearler A told me You have not logged in properly to your connected drive account and basically fobbed me off.

Dealer B took 6 weeks but correctly diagnosed the fault, replaced the part and explained and spoke to me like a human being.

I've had this on a couple of cars, both times down to a bit of crap on the seal triggering the anti-finger-chop mechanism. Have you tried running a wet microfibre round the seals to clean them out?

You're welcome. Unless you need to strip the doors down for some other reason I would try a good clean and maybe some carbaflo first. It only takes a bit of dirt and a dry seal to activate the anti-trap.
