Cloned cars

Article here online about eBay car scams http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ester-39792644

One of the featured stories is about a guy who purchased what looks like a 16 plate F32 in cash for £18k.

I mean come on. I don't condone these scum bags who do this, but £18k for a year old £40k car in CASH? Really! Use some sense people.

You do have to question the mentality of these people who believe they are actually getting a legit bargain. I mean come on a car for nearly half price that's less than a year old. Surely you'd question that before you even looked into the history of the car before buying/bidding:

I wouldn't even buy a BMW badge from ebay let alone a car. Everyone knows it's where all the stolen stuff goes. It's only one stop away from the dark web and transactions in Bit coins.

It just takes for someone non experienced, I wonder how much HPI check will help: "It means even if the buyer runs an online background check, the details will appear correct."

I didn't get this bit: Mr Alexander said he was told by police that the BMW had been returned to its original owner in Bury.

The price isn't as stupid as it sounds. Half of list is meaningless, no one buys for list. A BMW dealer currently has one of these for sale on a 16 plate for £20,000. So a private seller, keen for a quick sale, only £1,700 cheaper, is not unbelievable by any means.

It means the original owners insurance company had probably not paid out for the theft yet.
Once the car was recovered the original owners insurance company probably paid to have it put right and returned to the owner.

If they had paid out the owner it would have gone on sale through a salvage company as a Cat x (stolen/recovered.)

Well some one better snap that up quick. A 16 plate f32 for £20k from a dealer.
But seriously would you buy a car that new off fleabay and expect it to be fine. I certainly wouldn't.

If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

thinking about this again, this reminds of scam i avoided last year selling my Samsung Note Edge phone - i know its not car but stay with me, same morale..... i agreed sale with potential buyer from gumtree who then faked (pretty well) paypal fund being transferred/transaction complete email to my address, i spotted this scam by checking my paypal account and then double checking with paypal. For the following two weeks i was pestered by his/hers repeated emails asking to post the phone as payment has been sent and i need to do my part of deal.

I forwarded all evidence i had to actionfraud.police.uk and surrey police
1. Screenshots of the SMS communication to agree the deal with mobile number
2. Forwarded emails communications including fake paypal email
3. Provided with 2 postal addresses that buyer wanted me to to use
4. Forwarded fake paypal email to paypal

In the end all i got was there is non-sufficient evidence and case closed.

It just shows scams are not punishable and risk free, look at recent story of Woman, 23, who pocketed £20 she found in Blurton store being prosecuted http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/woman...ail/story.html how f'cking unfair that is.
