Coolant Top Up

Hi chaps. I had a message stating coolant low so topped up with a 1/2 litre of ready mix performance coolant from shell. Still had message so added another 1/2l. Drove 20 miles home and message is back.

I'm assuming there must be a leak somewhere so just wondering if others would call bmw uk to collect and fix? Phoned dealer who said that they couldn't get me on for a week or two so I either go and buy another bottle of coolant and keep topping up or phone for recovery.

Also I couldn't see any min/max indicator on coolant, or any float inside. Can somebody confirm where said indicator is in reservoir? It's a 335d btw.

Call BMW Assist if you are in warranty, don't keep driving it!

For what it's worth I've had the same message cone up as well.

Just chucked in a litre or so of appropriate coolant.

Went again a month or so later and did the same. Due a service n a couple of months so will mention it then.

If you put excess in the car will just chuck it out ciukdnt see any marks in the expansion tank either.

Thanks Kal and UKBB for advice. BMW assist have been out and cannot find a leak on pressure test but recommended to go to dealer anyway as things can change when it warms up.

Enterprise have phoned and offered me a manual fiesta! Seeing as I am away this week and need to drive several hundred miles I politely told them that was not good enough and to get me something better. He asked if I insist on a BMW so I told him no it can be any exec car just do not take the mickey offering me a 3 door 1l hatchback when I am taking in a 3l Saloon! He mentioned Audi or Merc which I am OK with.....I am not sure BMWUK would feel the same!!!!
