20's

Hi guys

I've currently got 403m's on my f30. I'm thinking of upgrading to 405m in 20's. Those of you who have 20's on, what's the ride like? I know ones persons perspective might be different to another person, but generally is the quality of the ride very hard?

What profile tyres are you running for 20 inch rims please. Thanks

No issues at all and that is with running Pirelli RF's. Even central London roads and ACS springs and still think they are more than fine. You will not regret it.

I changed to 405s a couple of months ago and they're fine. I try and avoid drain covers and potholes as much as possible but I did the same on the 442s. Where I've not been able to avoid them there is a bit more of a clunk but nothing to worry about so far.

The biggest difference I've noticed is the car seems so much lighter. I've got used to it now but initially it felt as though the car was floating

Because of the reduction in unsprung weight you think?

Mine is on 20" 404's. Look miles better when parked next to one with 19".

No issues with ride, go for it.

The unsprung weight reduction of 3kg per wheel over my 403s made a very noticeable difference, car definitely feels lighter and like it gets moving more quickly, when moving and from a standstill

Possibly. The only change was the wheels and tyres. I couldn't find the exact weights of the wheels and tyres but I do wonder if the difference is down to the reduction in weight.

I did wonder if the weight being reduced evenly across the car would have shifted the balance slightly but the technical details are beyond me so I haven't tried to understand what may have happened.

It was quite unusual, I wasn't expecting the change to be so noticeable but it was enough for me to realise there was a difference.

3kg for the wheel and also some more in the tyre as the 20 inch tyre has less sidewall which saves more too.

This tempts me more than looks if I'm honest.

The 405s are forged so definitely lighter. I don't think the ones above are, though they're still stunning looking.

Ok so seems like there's little compromise of the quality of the ride to switch to 20's. What profile tyres are you running on 20's? Thanks

Also tempted for this reason. Am I right in thinking there is more to be saved by swapping out the standard m sports discs, to dimpled m performance ones too?

That would save maybe a few grams! But they look much better so I preferred them for that reason when it was time to change discs.

So you have the dimpled discs?
I had read somewhere there was kg's to be saved, but that's obviously not correct then?
