Manual shift with auto transmission

When i drive in manual mode via paddle shifters or gear stick I tend to go up in gears like it's in manual; rev to say 3.5k rpm > change gear > let off the accelerate pedal and if I need to change again I then repeat the process.

Is this correct? I notice that if you accelerate and just keep pushing down the pedal and at same time changing gears, it got no problem responding to that.

What's right and best for the transmission?

Just keep your foot on the accelerator pedal when you change gears manually with a torque converted gearbox like our cars have.

Old style automated manuals, like the SMG boxes from E46 M3s and E60 M5s, are smoother wth a lift as you flick the paddle.

You would hope that on a car with a drive-by-wire throttle the ECU would be able to sort this out for itself.

You might, but it seems they don't, whether it's the BMW one, or even the Lamborghini one.

Not driven a Lamborghini with an auto transmission but on the Gaillardo manual that I did drive no amount of throttle feathering did anything to make me overlook the fact that Lamborghini were principally a manufacturer of agricultural tractors.

When I was taught to drive a 330d "properly" we were taught to keep the accelerator pressed. Saying that, we only ever manually change up from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd when pottering around town obeying speed limits. Anything else & it's in manual & you rev to full revs & let the gearbox change itself at the limiter.

ok so you guys suggest just keep holding accelerator as you work through the gears but thinking about it i probably enjoy more reving it to gear and then let accelerator go and repeat that for every gear change

maybe subconsciously i just miss manual gearbox
