Creaking since detailing the car

Hi guys..

So I washed and waxed the car over the weekend and applied some Auto Glym Viynl & Rubber care on the outside and inside of the rubber seals (on all 4 doors)

I have now noticed over rough roads and when the vehicle flexes the seals will creak. I've looked online and it mentions not to apply anything containing silicon (what an idiot I am) and of course AG product contains silicon.

If I wipe it down with a microfibre and warm water will that remove AG vinyl and rubber care? and more importantly will it remove the creaking?

Cheers

Time for the tape

Once it starts it is impossible to make it stop for any length of time!
My advice is to speak with the dealer and get the tape fix applied, it really is the best thing I ever did.

Oh no... that's not what I want to hear! lol

Surely if it wasn't there before and I remove what made it happen should resolve?! (I'm hoping)

Failing, I'll have to make a trip to BMW

Sort term fix

SONAX 03400000 Rubber Care https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002MZZN..._QfWczbTDSAQAZ

Prevention

Dodo Juice Born To Be Mild (250ml) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002OHOJ..._WgWczbNEJKX1E

My previous F30 creaked like a wooden ship. So I used the Sonax Rubber care to mitigate the issue. It would last 3 months or so.

My present F31 has only been washed with Born to be Mild and 8 months in doesn't creak yet.

You need to go back to basics I'm afraid.
First wash it with fairy liquid soap and rinse well. Then wipe down with methylated spirits. That should clear out the silicon grease and also cure your creaking ship syndrome.

Thanks...I will try the Sonax and see if that helps.

I use Dodo juice sour power to wash the car and never had any problems...I'm still blaming AG vinyl and rubber care

Fairy liquid on the rubber seals? What does that do? I've always been told to not use fairy on anything of the car?

So the silicone between the doors is causing the creak?

I stopped using DoDo Supernatural Shampoo as I decided the sheeting agents (wax/Sealant) within it were building up on the seals and causing a creak.

No issues with pure detergent, Born to be mild has no Sealant or Wax content by my understanding... Isn't Sour Power marketed as gloss enhancing? If so, it could have some agents that interact with the rubber in a similar way to the Supernatural did for me.

Most likely the new product, but Sour Power may not be helping either.

Good luck getting creak free

Creaking problem solved.
BMW sliding agent. KSP105
Part # 83230309627
Simply works. Comes in a roll on applicator just run it along the top of the door rubber. Zero issues. Amazing.

...I tried everything (including most of the stuff listed below) The garage also put on new seals and washed the car which immediately wrecked those as well... so... The tape was the way forward...it was such a relief to have a creak free car.

Gummi Pflege (German for rubber care) contains ethanol and degrades seals over time.

Auto Glym has silicone and works best on outside rubber and vinyl roofing.

So what can you use? In order of superiority and happening to be budget.

1. Swiss Vax Seal Feed: a 250ml bottle goes a long way. I use mine twice a year. Winter prep and summer. I have had the bottle 4 years and it's half way.

2. Carbaflo by BMW. Many dealer service departments still look dumbfounded when you ask them for this. Some refuse to post it because some parts departments like Inchcape Reading don't post chemicals like that. Here it is:

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-1...uine-bmw-part/

3. Wurth Rubber Care. No ethanol or silicone but in my opinion doesn't last as long as 1 or 2. So you'll apply it 3-4 times in a year but still a great product.

Happens to mine when I do my annual detail, easy to sort.

Soak a microfiber in hot water and fairy liquid and clean all the door frames where the rubber meets metal.

Keeping the seals absolutely clean seems to work for me. Wipe down the door seals and the Shadowline trim with APC solution on a microfibre cloth. I have also binned the wash and wax shampoo and am using Sonax Red Summer now.

We had similar door seals on the Leon and Gummiflege made the creaking much worse. Gummiflege did not seem to cause any issues on the MX-5 and MINI with frameless doors though.

Mine were absolutely terrible and have tried most of the items suggested. What i do now is to put oil along the top of the door - the furry bit. I have tried grease but that tended to dry out, so i find oil the best solution.

Thanks guys... I have purchased gummi pfledge, but before applying that I shall try fairly liquid wipe down.

I have used just a tissue and water on the seal that sits directly below the felt section on the inside of the door and that seems to do the trick for about a day.

I don't mind applying something every few months, but it's so annoying! and quite frankly embarrassing when you have passengers.

The squeak has appeared on my F31 out of the blue. I knew about the issue and so I have never cleaned the seals. It is really bad on mine and is all doors. I read somewhere else that this is only an issue with the M-Sport Matte black trim and not an issue with the chrome liner. Does everyone concur with this?
Also, do the dealers treat this as a warranty issue or good will? I didn't buy mine from my local dealer.

Cheers guys.

Yes warranty fix exists. Teflon tape. It's the only real way to solve it. I tried all the above; dealer did tape fix at service. Silent now and allows all the usual wash waxes without fuss
