Best HP/TQ Boost for around $3-400?
Hey guys;
Just trying to decide on either getting:
I just want a modest increase in HP/Tq to give a little extra pep to my M235i but without sacrificing smoothness of acceleration. I don't want anything complicated. I prefer it to be easy to remove b/c I still have 2 years of warranty left on my car. Reading through the user experiences on this forum gives me a little pause with these mods. Some have reported the power increase can cause jerky acceleration under normal driving conditions. The Dinatronics option seems cool b/c you can control the boost via an App as opposed to a POT in the JB+. Very little info is available on Racechip so not sure what to make of that option. Is it safe for these devices to always apply a +3PSI boost? If so, why didn't BMW do this stock? |

Sorry I can't speak to the three you asked about. I run a jb4 and love it. To answer this question. The answer you will get is anything modified is less safe than stock. Realistically it is pretty safe. I've got 20,000 miles on above stock psi. Running close to 20 psi with no issues. Car feels great. There are also a pretty decent amount of guys running upgraded turbos with 500 whp+ on stock internals and transmission. Also if you think you may every do more that just a tune you may want to go with something like jb4, Dinan, or flash have room to grow with mods. Take car of your car, do the research, and know the risk of modifying with warranty. That's all you can do. |

I run JB+ and love it. Driveability is the same, but with a bit more power. Install is 16 minutes (15 minutes for your car to go to sleep & 1 minute to install). Reliability has been fine. I'm under warranty and this is my work vehicle, so I like being able to uninstall it in the same amount of time.
I run the max setting and do not baby my car... No issues... In my opinion, I find the car in stock form slow, so I feel that most tunes are worth it.

My vote goes to JB4 stg2. Recent firmware is very smooth. Run map 1 and be prepared to want map 2. You start to uncork the potential of the N55. It will whisper in your ear "Don't be afraid". Believe me its inevitable. You will thank me later.

I have a jb stage 1 and im starting ti regret not just getting a jb4 from the beginning. So as a jb stage 1 owner. I recommend just spending a bit more and getting a jb4

Great feedback guys thanks so much. I'm actually strongly considering a Racechip One b/c I like some of the features it offers like variable boost adjustment via an app. It seems comparable to a JB+ and Dinatronics but in a neater package. Anyone use one of these?
I'm coming from a 2014 Lexus IS350F so the M235i stock is a significant step up already in acceleration. Anything I add at this point would be icing on the cake. Stupid question: I assume I have to remove the engine cover to do this mod. Does it just pop off? |

When putting the cover back on make sure you line up correctly. There are rubber grommets in the underise of the cover that can kinda pop out of place.

I'm running an AA8 tune on the default setting of 6. While I like the power difference I don't like the power delivery. It's obvious that it's just a piggyback that's fighting with the ecu. It's convinced me that I want a proper ecu tune. Right now the Bootmod3 (aka bootmode) platform is what I'm looking at since it allows you to load tunes from any tuner that supports the platform.
