So, Replica Wheels...
In short, are crap.
I bought the wheels last summer and was very pleased with the look, even thought they were plenty strong enough after hitting a pothole at 60mph, blowing out a tyre followed by hitting second pot hole while trying to slow down when there was little air left and i only put a small dent in the wheel. Problems started around february time with gritted roads when i noticed some corrosion, which got alot worse, very quickly. Got a price for a refurb at £72/corner and thought i could still live with poor corrosion resitance as i'm still over £2k up on buying a genuine set. Then i got a screw in a tyre, wasn't able to be repaired so needed a new tyre, but when the wheel was taken off there was a serious crack on the inside. There's no way i could have seen this without taking the wheel off so in funny way i was lucky i got the screw when i did!! Even with a screw and a crack there was no drop in pressure. Wheels will now be getting tossed in the bin! Buy cheap, buy twice! |

Crikey, nearly bought some of these today after getting fed up waiting for OEMs to come to market.
I always wondered if the shape was too similar to the original wheels - the originals are forged, and hence the material is much stronger than a cast wheel. As such a copy should be thicker in various places to make up for the weaker material - but one of the reasons these look so good is that I'm not sure they are. Hard to get real ones though. Been hunting for OEM ferrics 437 for some weeks now, like rocking horse wotnot. Thanks for the post, sorry for your experience but you've done others here a favour.

If memory serves, a supplier was advertising these wheels in the Classifieds forum a few months ago. From your pics they're dreadful quality. I'd try and reject them as unfit for purpose.

I nearly bought a set of replicas but just couldn't bring myself to do it for the same reason as your adage- any time I've bight cheap I've been disappointed and replaced with an OEM one after a while- black grilles being a good example. The diffuser I've got isn't great fitting but as I've got a tow bar which catches it, and a scuffed bumper anyway I actually prefer that it's a cheap shit one.
But key components like wheels where there is a potential big difference in quality isn't something I could scrimp on.

Without wishing to appear to be standing on any ones side here - merely a question for wiser people
Do we know for sure that this wouldn't have happened on an OEM wheel after hitting a pot hole st 60. Believe there was an issue some time ago might have been with the E series of OEM BMW wheels cracking.

If they are CMWh33ls, I sent a set of 405M's back after only 2 months due to issues with corrosion on the polished face. They issue no warranty on corrosion but mechanical failure

They were from the same supplier. I had applied a coat of carbon collective platinum wheels too, hoping to give extra protection.

I won't be scrimping again, that's for sure! A friend has just got an M2 and having a good close look there is a noticable difference in quality, albeit you have to get up close to see it.

The finish on genuine 405m's is pretty crap too. Cracks can happen in any wheel to be fair. Not trying to justify your issue at all. Just sayin

Closest I've heard is a member here having issues with a couple of genuine 405Ms bending after hitting potholes. Nothing about them cracking though.
