Alignment - Icon adaptive LED headlights.

I wondered if some of you might be kind enough to let me have the benefit of your experiences…

I have the Icon adaptive LED headlights on my 340i. For some time time (since delivery, really) I have had the niggling doubt that they are not quite correctly aligned, with the driver’s side lights (in particular) seemingly dipping a little more down than the passenger side (I am not confusing the adaptive operation, this is when lights in “on” position). This might be normal (less dazzling to oncoming traffic) but it does have the sort of look I had with the xenons on my last car when the lamp hit had been biffed and moved so it pointed more down. I can see a more definite cut off of the beam on that side in the road, whereas the other side the cut off is blended more above the road level/surface..

Do others have this more right hand down type of alignment to their lights, and am I seeing what I am supposed to be seeing, or does this sound a tad wonky..…?

I know I should probably pop it into the dealers, but time is a problem for me at the mo”…

As an aside, my impression of LED over Xenon is that the Xenon seems to give a more obvious improvement. I think the LED’s are probably not any less illuminating, just that the xenons appear to be more illuminating…

Go to an MOT tester and ask them to check the alignment for you.

I have adaptive LEDs. I've not noticed any difference between driver and passenger side.

As an update, I have noticed that my lights only move to point around left hand bends... there is no movement to the right for right hand bends...

I suspect I need to be having the whole thing checked out...

They are intended to turn preferentially to the left, it stops the left hand flick up from dazzling oncoming drivers. I believe this is why you're not meant to use the auto function when driving on the wrong side of the road. Though, I think they turn more to the right when the magic is enabled.

My adaptive LED's are lower on the right also. Just like a normal headlight pattern, not as flat as the previous Adaptive Xenons were.

Yeah, I think mine are more or less ok, to be honest, as the dipped beam pattern is (I am sure) supposed to flatten (and shorten) to the middle and centre of the road so as to avoid dazzle to oncoming vehicles... You can see the dipped (normal) beam pattern on dip at times in this video...

BMW Intelligent Headlight Technology - BMW UK

What makes me think they are set a tad low on the RH side, when dipped, though, is that I am easily picking up the beam cut off and, on past cars, it's lifted up enough to not be so obvious... but this might be just me... (when I had the xenons, somebody reversed into me and knocked them out, pointing down, and that is what I noticed immediately, that cut-off to the beam..)...

In adaptive mode (rotary switch to left) they also, apparently, have different patterns at different speeds, I read... Urban and Motorway, depending on certain speed criteria...

So this might also be confusing me.

My comment about the pointing swivel of the "see around bends" adaptive mode turning left only was actually a case of RFM... which says.. "so as not to dazzle oncoming vehicles, the adaptive headlights do not swivel to the driver's side when stationary."... Of course, I was stationary when I checked this...

d-oh...

Everything seems to work all right in "dancing" High-beam assistance mode...
