Decat just fitted to 340i f31... Awesome!
Just had a 4" de-cat downpipe fitted and been to collect the car.
Absolutely fantastic, really pleased with it! Quite a bit louder on cold startup... Then pretty similar to stock at idle... In comfort it's about 20% louder than stock when taking it easy, a bit deeper sounding but not boomy and no drone. In sport.... Wow. Totally different sound completely. I haven't heard the mppsk in person but all the videos I've heard sound very similar to this! I also experienced the "gunshots" I've heard people talking about... And while I also hate them being described as gunshots, as it sounds ridiculous, the sound is actually really well summed up by this title!! Haven't taken it above 5000 yet but will do soon to realise the top end performance gains feeling! |

Quick video - will do something better soon
There's a slight smell when sat at traffic lights and the engine running. Its not bad - it certainly wouldn't make me want to take it off and put a cat back in - the smell isnt over-bearing, it just noticeable. I actually quite like the smell, it smells like a petrol forecourt. This is a catless downpipe! So far so good, really like the noise. It works exactly how I wanted it to... it isnt loud ALL the time, its noisy when you want it to be, and slightly louder than stock at all other times. Idle sounds very stock-ish. |

Can I just say how envious I am of you having an F31 340i? I would LOVE to have that here in the states

JB+ on its own will give you more performance than the MPPSK

With a little ethanol chucked in to handle the timing, a JB+ could be an OK option while waiting for flash tuning availability if fuel trims still have room to move. |

Depends what you mix it with. I wouldnt do more than 12gal of 93 and 3gal of ethanol but thats me.

I would not run map 2. I'd run MPPSK with 85% 93oct and 15% E85 and I'd ask Terry for a custom JB4 firmware that doesn't modify the IAT signal to the DME and run map 1. That way, you get good reported torque, fairly close to DME boost target (so better fuel trims) and fairly aggressive timing.

Sounds nothing like the MPPSK... This video sounds like a rice burner... MPPSK is throaty, deep - and much louder under acceleration. The down shifts are mostly burbles with once ins a while pops (which only come at the higher RPM).
MPPSK sounds like a GTR with exhaust but at a lower volume... closest I can compare to. |

Sorry, can you expand on this? I thought that JB4 map 2 was specifically created for cars running downpipe. Terry / team are saying that's what I should be running, so I'm a bit confused by your statement.
Also, upon further research, I'm planning to just supplement with Torco. Seems like the easiest way to bump up octane level by a few notches to ensure that timing doesn't get pulled. Any cons to that vs. supplementing with E85? Quote:

MPPSK + Map 1 would allow you to run similar boost to stock + map 2, but with less dodgyness. Better boost control, better timing and fuel, better torque reported to the TCU. |

I see - really appreciate the explanation.
Doesn't map 1 also trick the DME into thinking it's running stock boost (with map 2 just increasing boost further)? Just trying to get it straight in my head. Last question - I'm installing catless downpipe and intake as well. Would you still recommend I add a bit of E85 in the tank when running the car harder that usual (for additional safety net?) even when only running map 1 or would that only be needed on map 2? Thanks a lot for your help! Quote:

Map 1 increases boost but it does more than just boost - the other sensors, timing etc. are in play to deliver smooth delivery. (not sure how it compares with or without MPPSK)
Map 2 has more aggressive timing and reduces boost from map 1 but creates more power if you run higher octane. However, Map 2 is still in beta and doesnt recommend as a daily driver. It is good for those who have 93 octane. He does NOT recommend E85 at all in the B58 motor under any circumstance. He has never gone into much detail other than this motor doesnt like it and should be avoided (Unlike the N55 motor). He recommends going to meth for the added performance. Things may have changed but in summary above is what Terry stated in the N54 forums a while back. You can go and find the posts to confirm my statements. Quote:
