Help needed please - remap options?
Hi All,
I'm sure this has probably been covered 1000 times but I'm off work this week and was thinking it would be good to get a remap this week to enjoy the car a little more . As such, by default, I thought of two companies (one based in Luton beginning with E and one based in Birmingham beginning with M) to go to. Not sure if I'm allowed to name them so I'll hold off for now but hopefully people will be able to guess who I'm talking about. My question is, are these the guys to go to or would you recommend elsewhere? Also, how does a remapped 330d hold up against a stock 335d? Thanks in advance! |

Assuming the Luton based company is Evolve. I had my 335d remapped over a year ago by them and Imran and the team certainly knew their stuff and how to fettle a BMW. It's been running well and certainly much faster and more fun that when it was at stock. If you want comparisons of remapped 330d's, stock 335d's and remapped 335d's search for surrey rolling road in the forum, there's an old post where people had a meet and some dyno results posted and there's also another one arranged for next month. Sadly I can't make it as I'll be out of the country.

Cheers mate! Ever used MSL? Evolve done my E60 and that was class so by default, I was tempted to head back that way but they're working with a 2 week backlog

I have used Evolve for my 320D and they were great, decided on a tuning box for the 530D as the car is still in warranty and wanted to take it on/off easily.

My F31 330D has MPPK and it's a useful addition. I'd say on par with stock 335D up to speeds approaching the silly zone (say 120mph). 35D probably has the advantage beyond that.
There are cheaper remaps (and boxes of course) but MPPK keep full BMW warranty.

Is it really the same as a stock 335d in terms of performance?

Have a look at DMS Automotive in Southampton, I highly recommend these guys, they really know there stuff, and lots of car porn while you wait
320d xdrive: Stats before 179.3 bhp & 300 torque Stats after 238.5 bhp & 400 torque Really did give the car a new lease of life.

The MPPK doesn't make the biggest claims but being a BMW product the car remains fully warranted. I preferred not to have to remove/refit a tuning box for dealer visits or run the risk of a detectable non-BMW remap (although Tengocity's car has been for diagnostic and warranty work with a DMS map and nothing was detected). It comes down to personal choice. I'll be keeping this car for many years so the BMW product made sense for me.

If money was no object, I'd have the MPPK. But I'd also need the brake upgrade so it makes it very expensive.
So I've narrowed it down to a DMS remap because I'm based in Southampton (they claim up to 331bhp and 482lb/ft on my 330d), or a Steinbauer module. I think with the latter you get what you pay for hence my decision there. I'm leaning more towards the DMS route. This Simon at EMaps pops up on loads of forums, and always with very favourable reviews, so I may look into him. I also like the fact he can come out to you. Good luck with whatever you choose OP, and look forward to your review! |

Smithers "If money was no object, I'd have the MPPK. But I'd also need the brake upgrade so it makes it very expensive.".
If your car has stock brakes and BMW requires your car to have a brake upgrade as part of the MPPK (as did mine) why would you ignore that and then go for an even more powerful remap ? The stock brakes are pretty shit in my experience, and I upgraded them again to StopTech front BBK - I wouldn't want to run a 313bhp map (and actually use it) with a stock brake setup.

I concur, the stock brakes are absolutely fine even with an increase in power. You are going to boil your fluid or experience pad fade due to excess heat before you need to worry about additional pistons up front. A fluid and pad upgrade will offset that too!

I'll be happy if the StopTechs don't fade : my standard brakes were fading badly after 2-3 hard laps at Bedford and my rear tyres were melting
