435d gc question

Hi guys I'm new to all this never had a bmw but would like some advice I have seen a one year old 435d gc with plus pack head up display and reversing camera etc but not the adaptive suspension.. after reading lots and lot of guys in here with xdrive saying handling is rubbish on xdrive as is se set up, then read people saying about the aftermarket springs you can get that make a world of difference question is do they make all the difference on the passive springs or only the adaptive?? I'm itching to buy this car as looks great and has all the other options I wanted.. so some me advice would be most welcome..

I have adaptive and although it's nice, it's not a deal breaker, and either way you need the springs to reduce the crazy high ride height imo.

There are two aspects to changing the springs.

The first is ride height which as standard is comically high, the second is to resolve the rather wallowy handling.

Some on here have gone a step further and replaced the dampers as well to truly transform the cars handling.

I've got adaptive dampers on my car and in my view they fight against the standard springs, whereas with ACS springs they are far more complimentary. I've not driven a 335d with passive dampers.

I have 430dx M Sport. Running 19" alloys. Never had an issue with suspension.
I'm not saying you can't improve it, but will you use it?

As for ride height, I reckon it's just an ongoing joke here. I park next to a 430d at work. I dont notice any height difference.

That was a question I certainly asked myself, but took the plunge anyway and it totally transformed the car. I'm back to standard now though prior to trading the car in and it really feels awful in comparison.

I find adaptive definitely firms up damping but ACS will be fitted in summer

Simple answer is YES!

Take the plunge now otherwise you'll start stalling over the deliberations of heated steering wheel or no heated steering wheel

Iv had my 435d GC for nearly a month now and went out for a spirited drive yesterday as the car has nearly run in. The standard springs when pushing on are very bouncy but with all the trickery in the dsc I never felt out of control. You've got to ask your self how often do you really push on compared to just cruising around? Personally I welcome the softer suspension for the 95% of the time I'm getting from A to B. The major fly in the ointment for me is the ride height but I'm not sure if I'm just getting used to it but it seems a tad lower lately? Personally I don't think the suspension is as bad as people make out unless you intend on taking the car on track?

I'm collecting my new 435d GC LCI on Friday and hadn't heard about the appearence of the suspension so hadnt included adaptive suspension on my spec... I've just seen the ACS springs are only £299, any idea where I can get them fitted and how much that might cost? Will BMW dealer do it?

My local indie told me 25 quid a corner (not sure that includes resetting lights, but does include 4 wheel alignment

BMW will charge you roughly 400+ For fitting
Chris Jackson in Stockport was circa £623 supplying springs 18 months ago, I suspect that is more now

Thanks that has put my mind at rest a little as u say how often are you really pushing it down the B roads etc.. so your car is not adaptive?

No not adaptive. I don't think you would buy the car and feel like you've regretted it to be honest as like i said it's not that bad.

This.
Given the state of the roads, and the number of people on here (self included) that have experienced damaged tyres due to pot holes, I have no idea why one would want firmer suspension.

My next car is going to be a 440iGC with adaptive. As an Sdrive it will actually come with Msport springs so initially I'll see what it's like. My longer term thoughts are to possibly go down the Bilstein B16 Damptronic route if and when it becomes available.
First thing though will be to get the MPPSK fitted.
