F****** Pot Holes and Run Flat Tyres

Seriously pissed off - 2 years and now on my 3rd replacement tyre having gone done a fuckin pothole and got a tyre bulge again! Tried to claim against Rochdale and got nowhere! This one was in Bury so will give it a go but expect to get nowhere again as it will no doubt be within there limits etc etc. The only definite from all this is I will never buy a car with runflats again!

Where the hell our road tax goes I've got no idea because the roads are a bloody disgrace!

Switch to non-RFT : much more resilient as the sidewalls will give.

I feel your pain mate. One of my pet hates is effin potholes. They're everywhere. My local council (Tameside) who I affectionately call shameside spend money on all sorts of shit like new council buildings (when the previous one they have just knocked down was less than 50 years old). Spend some money on fixing the roads you useless shites!

If it wasn't for handing the car back in 12 months I would - and I've just replaced the other front having found a bulge in that one from christ only knows where!

Tyre insurance but not with BMW has to be the way to go - one claim and you've as good as paid for the policy - looks like I'll be doing just that on Tuesday - nsr tyre losing pressure, 1 down 4 to go on 48 month policy.

Our local council sent 6 men and two large machines to fix some 3cm potholes in a road. They completely ignored the other 2cm deep ones next to them as they had to wait until they then reached 3 cm to send the same men back again!!Fecking local civil servant fu88tards.

I was only having the this conversation with my local tyre / alignment place today whilst having a Hunter alignment done.

The alignment on both the front and rear axles where over half a degree out and he said it will be all the pot holes around the area as I know I have not hit any kerbs etc.

He showed me the Hunter kit / setup - and quite impressive it was too!

I am tempted to move away from run flats now though as the ride on my 18 inch wheels seems so harsh!!

Thanks for all the replies. I would definitely move away from runflats but for the fact I have 12 months of the PCP left and as it needs (AFAIK) to be returned with runflats I may as well put a replacement RFT on the wheel as I'd need one anyway for return!

On the plus side I'll only have to pay for the tyre (and not fitting) as when my car was in for a service on Thursday they also checked out corrosion round the hubcap on that wheel so they've ordered a replacement to fit at my convenience - so hopefully (and I'll be very disappointed if they don't!) they can just put the new tyre on the new wheel. Just a shame they don't come fitted with a new tyre!!

I lost a non-RFT to a pothole recently, blew a hole in the side wall, just had enough air to limp 100 metres to luckily where there was an entrance to farmers field and i could get off the road, there i sat for 2 hours for a recovery truck, followed by a 1 hour trip to a tyre place that happened to have the tyre i wanted in stock. Pretty much lost the day.

There is something to be said for RFTs'.

Driving more than 15,000 miles in the US. I didn't encounter one pot hole! The highways are like runways made of concrete or something. I wonder why we still use asphalt and the likes.

Yea California is like that as well, but the mayor just said that they're going full force into fixing the roads. Runflats have lots of downsides to it, but I got lucky I had them yesterday after a nail in the tire and i needed to be somewhere.
