M2 6-speed @ MSRP...

Hi guys! I'm in the market of purchasing my next all around car and it decided that it would be the m2.

Does anybody know where can I get base M2 6-speed at MSRP or even cheaper?

Thanks in advance!

you just have to go to a dealership near you and tell them you want it at msrp. you will probably have to put a deposit to secure allocation and wait a few months to a year for your order. check the various regional forums also as some dealerships may post when they have people who drop out of their allocation for whatever reason.

you can also start calling around, i found mine about 800 miles from where i live. it was $500 or so to truck in. i alos set up alerts on cargurus.com and autotrader so when new ones are posted, you know.

if you are a usaa member, you get $2000 off list. you need to be ex military or the child of ex military to join, you can check their website for eligibility. good luck!

MSRP is becoming more and more standard. A few have negotiated a $1,000 under plus corporate, USAA and such discounts which are BMW brand centered and not model specific. I was happy at MSRP and got it with only two phone calls.

If you don't want to wait I'd say probably a tad over Msrp or if your patient just order one. Don't know if today it better than a year away or demand dropped?

Very unlikely, and if he did, it would be a DCT.

Most 6MT ones have been customer order, very few dealers will take a risk with a 6MT as it could sit on the lot and hurt future M2 allocations (the longer it takes to sell = less likely to get future allocations)

It's likely you will have better luck at a dealership not close to you and then drive the car back or flat bed it or something. I went to a dealership about 400 miles away but it got me in the car probably at least 5 months sooner. Seems like making it a day trip is worth reducing the wait by many months.

Now that I see you're in North Cal Bay area I would suggest calling So Cal dealerships, they get A LOT more M2s. Try Beverly Hills, Long Beach, Irvine, etc. Last I checked Bay Area dealerships had a LONG waiting list. There may be more M2s sitting on lots right now than there will be in a few months as many people are probably waiting on the LCI update which might work in your favor if you want a MY17 or don't care.

One more tip. I noticed on Carguru and auto trader sometimes automatics/DCT and Manuals are listed incorrectly. When I looked at the car pics I could clearly see a listed DCT was actually a manual and a manual sometimes as a DCT. So if you can't locate the transmission you want, check all the other cars that have pics to see if they might actually be what you're looking for.

USAA has a discount. Your work might also have a fleet discount. There is some kind of BMW drive for team USA discount as well.

I was under the impression that almost 50% of M2s are stick.

So why would the 6MT be a risk?

I believe somewhere BMW was quoted claiming a 20% take rate on the 6spd

But don't quote me on that.

I remember reading someone else saying this too in one of the CS threads. I think what they mean by 20% is actually 20% of non-customer ordered cars were equipped with MT...maybe? Not sure if I have that right either.

As we know, the CS is likely to be DCT only so you 6MT guys may have the better financially appreciating vehicle in years time if BMW ditches MT and DCT altogether and sports cars evolve in the direction they are pointing.
...if you care about that anyway. Tangent, sorry.

the take rate for DCT vs manual among CUSTOMERs is around 50%.

The order rate for DCT for cars ordered by the DEALER is much closer to 80%. (more profit on sale.. go figure! )

Agree on the manual cars perhaps being more sought after in the future.

Actually the uptake rate of 6MT's for the M2 worldwide is only 20% - this was a statement made by the head of M, on a post that ended up on the front page (I think it was called "Death of Manuals for BMW" or something along those lines). Keep in mind that in certain markets the M2 is only offered as DCT (Brazil for example).

North America is a bit more skewed, with as others have noted, something closer to a 50% uptake rate for customer ordered cars. As for dealer ordered ones, it's close to 90% DCT.

If my Z4MC is any indication, the 6MT cars will hold a premium in the future, since anyone looking at buying a used M2 say 4-6 years down the road is much more likely to be an enthusiast and thus want 6MT.

Not to mention that every DCT will need a full replacement someday - with a very high price tag, as opposed to say, replacing a clutch disk, pressure plate and or throw out bearing.

I shudder at the cost of replacing a DCT....can't be cheap.

I wonder if it would cheaper to replace it with a manual. It's like 15k for the DCT + labor.
