My first BMW purchase: 2012 BMW 328i F30 Sportsline

Hey guys, recently purchased my 2012 BMW 328i F30 Sports Line in Black.

I am new to BMW's and wondering if anyone can please give me handy information in regards to owning a BMW in general or specifically a 328i F30. Do's and dont's..

Any tips, tricks, recommendations, advice or must knows would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks 👍🏼

Congrats and welcome. This is a great forum. I'm in my first BMW as well, but just ordered a 340i.

My recommendation:

...use the search feature for your model year. Like search for "2012 328i". Since '12 is the first year for F30, there is a ton of info here. If you find stuff you aren't sure about, then ask away!

Maybe others with '12 F30s will have more specific tips for you...

Recommend OEM fluids, maintenance as well...they are pretty stout cars ready to go. Burger Tuning Stage 1 tune will probably wake up the car nicely for you, would also consider having someone do some remote coding for you and you can unlock some great features and functionality in the car that you may find useful.

Congrats! I have the same car in BSM.

Do lots of reading on the forums. Keep your maintenance up to date with OEM parts and fluids. What mileage are you at?

Also look in the classifieds for deals on used mods/parts. I've done some really good mods to mine and haven't paid nearly what I should have for them.

Most importantly, enjoy it!

2018 F80 M3 CS  [9.87]
2019 i3 BEV  [0.00]
Congrats!!!

Do:

Replace your RFTs
Get a Tire Repair Kit and keep in your trunk
Get your oil changed every 10k miles
Save $1500 a year for maintenance and repairs
Look into a BMS Stg 1
Look into aftermarket suspension to improve handling and overall road feel.
Disable ASD.
Look into having your car coded for lots of custom features.
Enjoy your car!

Don't:

Turn off DCT in the rain
Get a BOV
Ignore your maintenance intervals
Retrofit ASD or code in another engine. It sounds horrible.

I've driven loaners with ASD, and I get a headache. No way could I live with it.

I'm a new 328i owner as well.

What is ASD? Is that the fake engine sounds that is put through the sound system? Whats the best DIY thread here to help me disable it or modify it to sound better?

Thanks!

I thought ASD was a 2014+ thing? OP has a 2012. I don't think my 2012 has it either, it sounds quiet, perhaps too quiet.

Hello everyone, I am overwhelmed from all the kind mesages! Thank you all. I am very noobish with cars (and using forums) I did not even recognise these comments until now!

My next question was going to be tuning, I'm glad you mentioned it. Do you recommend getting a tune? And if so, any specific things I should do/lookout for?

What sort of features and functionality can I unlock?

Please don't mind me, I am a Real Estate agent and have close to zero knowledge of BMW's and most cars.

Definitely trying to treat her well! Sports + mode is great, got to start using it less though! Haha.

I am on 92,000 Kilometres!

Run flats! Hate that word. Had two punctured tyres within the first week of purchasing the vehicle! Each tyre cost me $344. Wasn't happy!

Is BMS Stg 1 some sort of tuner? What difference does it make to the car? I am definitely looking at doing some sort of mods/upgrades to gain some extra grunt.

A few people have mentioned ASD to me, though I don't think my car has that feature.. it actual sounds very dull from the inside and didn't know it sounded good until my friend took it for a spin and I heard him take off!
