DIY N55 Oil Filter Housing Gasket

It seems like this is a frequently requested procedure so I've decided to compile the attached PDF from ISTAD Rheingold documents for reference purposes.

Nice. I personally chose to drain my oil after doing the gasket, so that if any coolant happened to drip into my oil, it would hopefully be drained out.

I performed this procedure last two days on my F30. Not for the faint of heart. I used the Bentley manual. Pretty involved operation, due to that one bolt just right underneath the intake manifold. This required loosening the manifold and lifting it 2 inches up so I could remove the bolt. Also required oil drained, and coolant drained, fan shroud removal (another pain in the ass - it doesn't go straight up!). The oil cleanup work was not fun. I had to replace the AC belt too. So word to the wise - when you smell burnt oil; take a look under the hood right away!

Just completed this DIY. Its pretty easy but it gets messy. Definitely lost some oil and coolant down onto the belly pan and onto the floor. Cleaned up what I could.

I am wondering if it would be wise to swap out my serpentine belt since some oil did get on it from the swap. I cleaned up what I could but its a tight squeeze.

Also, do i need to change out the oil before driving it again in case of contamination during the swap? I don't think any coolant go into the oil or vice versa, but you never know. If a little bit of cross contamination happened would it be detrimental?

got picture? my belt was drenched from the leak. 10 minute procedure anyway and belt was inexpensive.

picture of belt? I wiped it pretty clean, it wasnt drenched but nonethless it got hit. Ill probably remove the belt since its $30. also going to drain oil before i put many miles on it.
