Which de-cat for 340i? Will 140/240i pipe fit?

Morning all,

Only had the F31 340i for a week, and the modding bug has already begun!

I am wanting to increase the sound a little, and power output - so I am looking at a de-cat pipe.

Can anyone tell me if the 140i/240i Richter de-cat pipe here will fit directly to the 340i touring?

I've spoken to the guys from the shop, and they believe it will - but they haven't ever done one on a f31... so they cannot confirm for sure

https://www.jb4shop.co.uk/collection...decat-downpipe

Also has anyone fitted one of these with the O2 lambda spacer to keep CEL off? I did this in my previous 235i and it worked perfectly

Thanks!

Might be better posting this in the General section rather than UK. I don't think many on here have changed the Cat on theirs.

I have read the M1/240i and 3/440i M Perf exhaust is the same so it could well mean the rest of the exhaust is the same too. Not many options for sport/decats in the UK for these cars.

I don't understand why someone would want to fit something that will void the warranty on the most expensive part of a car -drivetrain, as well as making the car illegal - decat.

Just pony up and get the MPPSK.

Having had de-cats previously, and most recently on my previous 235i, I would have to disagree.

It is a very worthwhile mod, which on the 235i in particular really freed up the revviness of the engine - it felt so much more alive after 4500rpm with it fitted.
Also (on the 235i) the sound of the de-cat downpipe with stock exhaust was considered by most forum users to sound superior to the M-Perf exhaust - which was quite raspy and added no power - the downpipe kept things much quieter when not in sport mode, and added roughly 20bhp when dyno'd

I am not sure how that relates to the B58 engine - although I would assume/hope similar.

Tha ms, difficult with hearing on videos the sound. Would you say its just a louder stock sound as opposed to the more naisly mppk sound?

Nah, the sound is quite different. It's deeper. And more raspy at low rpm's (idle to 2000rpm) but then sounds really good

But you do know the MPPSK does add power when applied to the 440i or 340i, as the price you pay also gives your extra BHP to 365 with a remap and also keeps your warranty intact.

I'm sure you'll be ok, but spending 40k on a car to void the warranty with a 500 quick end piece seems mad to me, I've got the MPPSK and the sound is fine and it does sound different dependant how warm she is, in comfort its fine and does rasp even then if done right

but I suppose in the end if your happy with it and don't mind BMW trying it on should something god for bid happen then go for it, let me know where you get the remap, I spoke to rebellion and Burger and neither offer it for the MPPSK but only for the stock engine.

they did offer to throw it on the ramp and do it but I bottled it....

No CEL's

Im hoping it works the same way as the 235i... I used a Lambda spacer with that car also, and over 15,000mi I never got a CEL.

Using the same spacer on the 340i - hoping it works.... so far so good (100mi)

if your genuinely not arsed about warranty.

id go for the decat, far more you can do around that mod and you will get far more out of it ultimatly compared to the mppk which may become a limiting factor in the long run.

that said from my own experiances i would recommend something a bit more warranty friendly.

The JB4 also keeps the CEL off with a decat fitted.

If you don't already have one I recommend this seller http://ap-performance.co.uk/engine-e...-340i-b58.html
