Low Oil 3 Days after oil change F30

So I brought my 340i in for the service on Monday and now it says low oil. I had previously driven 14k miles without low oil occurring. Unlikely that the car would burn a quart of oil in 3 days after not doing so in the last 10 months and the car was technically in service since march so more than a year. Would seem they didn't put enough oil in. I'll bring it in tomorrow to see what the SA says. Anyone have this happen just after oil change? They also had not reset the CBS.

Did you check your oil level after it was changed?

Did you check your bumpers to see if they were scratched? Sometimes it's a no charge option to scratch one of your bumpers as part of free maintenance.

Lol yes I should check oil level and cbs each time. I also had paid maintenance at the same time. We will see if they'll hook me up with a quart of oil to keep in the trunk along with a funnel like others on here. I've never had to do this with my hondas and toyotas ive owned in the past and drive past 100 k miles. I have a Toyota currently with over 100 k miles although there was an oil leak once with that car due to a botched oil change by an incompetent mechanic.

I would think the low oil indication would come up immediately. Check under the car for an oil spot in case there's a leak from the oil sump. Look at the oil filter housing for leaking at the gasket.

There might be a leak onto the underside panel that doesn't leak to the ground

So they checked the oil level sensor and it was checking okay, so they didn't put enough oil apparently. So no different than service departments at Honda and Toyota, lol where problems often occur just after being serviced and are not due to a fault with the vehicle.

Another reason to DIY the basic maintenance stuff.

My CBS just told me it's time. Hopefully they make sure it's topped off!

Check both your cbs and do a level oil check before you leave the service department when you pick up your car.

They should offer to give you the oil/filter/drain plug/filter housing gasket for free if under maintenance contract so you can opt to DIY without having to pay anything. Otherwise it's $80 typically, maybe a little less if you use different oil or purchase from another website. I would still want free wiper blades and cabin air filter/brakes, so they'd have to be able to do those while not also doing oil changes.

I tried that once. Said they couldn't do it. I'm not sure what difference it makes but they said no

So the parts department can make more money from the DIYers. Maybe if you're friends with an SA they can hook you up.

I've only had one oil change performed by the dealer (CPO 2013 purchased 02/2016, under free maintenance program, oil changed after 1 year / 8k miles). My car thinks the level is OK, so I'll assume it is!
I understand the oil has to be warm for the oil level check to be performed. Perhaps the OP's techs didn't wait for the oil to warm. You would think they'd know how much to add...

When I did the oil level check myself, it wouldn't let me run the check without the engine at operating temperature so they would have to use special equipment that ignores this requirement rather than the one in the I Drive. I was told free maintenance didn't come with CPO, must be a recent change that they made.

I now have a theory as to what caused the under fill. The vast majority of the cars being serviced that day and probably most days have the N20 which takes 6L of oil vs the B58 which takes 7L. They must be so used to putting 6L of oil they forgot to add the seventh bottle. They got lazy and didn't run the oil level check in I drive as they have to warm up the engine to run it and that takes time and there are a million customers. Probably figured it wasn't necessary since they know how many liters it takes right? Takeaway here is to check the oil level yourself before leaving though you may have to drive around the block first. I guess if you have sufficient oil pressure it won't ruin the engine with 6L even though the engine had to be running to do the test. I'm assuming a low pressure light would be a more dangerous situation and you would know right away.
