Real world MPG & 430i exhaust note

Hi All,

Currently in a 420d getting around 52MPG (doing around 30k per annum).

Up for change and looking at a 430i as a bit of a change - but worried that I'll really overestimate the MPG.

Do you think its worth it? Anyone got a handy PPM calculation based on real world? I do about 55% Motorway, 30% A Road & 15% Urban....

What about the sound? Worth getting the MPE?

Or should I just get another 420d and put on the M Performance Active Sound??

So many questions!!

You'll only get one answer if you ask that question here. It won't be a 430i..!

Going by here, http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/...ran-coupe-2014

submitted mpg for a 420d GC is virtually identical to what you're getting - 51.7mpg

428i (which is as close to 430i as you're going to get) shows up as 31.8mpg

The submitted figures for 435i are 29mpg.

So a reasonable assumption for a 430i - 30mpg, maybe 35 if you're really lucky.

I'd say a 430i should be in the 35-40mpg range given your mix of driving. I think the B series Petrol with the 8AT can be springily economical.

I was expecting to get 29mpg from my 340i, but after nearly 6k I'm sat at 31.6mog calculated. Nearly 10% better in for me than I expected based on two previous N series Diesels. But, my commute is relatively short and mileage much lower, favouring a Petrol.

What's your present 420d relative. Real/claimed combined? Multiply this by the claimed combined. for a 430i and you've got a fair indicator I'd say...

Though, at 30k isn't a diesel still attractive. Or, are you expecting to have your trousers pulled down by the government?

Nice comparison, thank you.

Good idea on the relative comparison......

420d is 70MPG on the extra cycle, and my result is 52.4 over the last year.

430i is 50MPG so the relative should be 32.4 (assuming I can keep my foot off the loud pedal).....

Diesel is still attractive, without a doubt - I'm just looking for a change but maybe looking in the wrong place!!

Erm, I make that 37.4 mpg... Using your numbers...

(54.2/70)*50= 37.4

My 340i Touring will better 32.7 mpg over your kind of usage... And that's two extra cylinders and not that lovely slippery 4 series shape...

I have a 430i GC (manual).

Foot to the floor over ~500 miles will average about 30-35 (depending on traffic/tractors).

If you're driving in sport mode all the time, but without going all out on every road, 37.5 is easily obtainable.

If you live in eco then max I've got (over 500 miles) is 46.5mpg.

This is on a mixture of country and motorways (circa 75:25 split). I reckon I could hit 50 on a long motorway journey/commute.

Not sure how you manage those figures as my 328i has an average of 27.1 mpg after 22000 miles. I do drive my car rather than treating it like a trophy .

The car will do 40mpg if you drive at 70-80 on the motorway but any faster and mpg plummets.

To be fair that's off the OBC, so perhaps around 15-20% too high!
