Insurance for 3/440i?

Morning, i just got a quote for 440i from my current insurance company Admiral.

This is so fking stupid! I don't think i will able to afford this car because of insurance. They want over £4k for 10 months.

I'll get the ball rolling

Did you not get some quotes before purchasing the car?

Either way, that price is absolutely ridiculous!!!

Hi, i'm just planning ahead as my current car is now 3 years old and looking for a few other potential cars if i don't get a Cayman.

Even 440i is so costly so there's no way i'll be able to afford other potential cars in my list which includes C43 Coupe and M2 (please don't laugh).

I never thought insurance for 440i would be this expensive.

I paid over £2k for my current car 316i for the first 10 months, but it's now a bit down with 2 years no claim bonus. Still a lot IMO.

You say you only have 2 years no claims. I'm guessing then that you have had at least one claim in the last few years then?

If that is the case then I would certainly suggest setting your sights lower while you get outside the 5 year window most insurance companies look at.

As another way of lowering insurance is if you insure a partner or friend of similar age to you. Insurance companies see this as a sign that you tust others with your property and is seen in a positive light. Whether or not you let them drive the car is up to you though.

I've never claimed mate. No accident so far. My "new" car was already 4 months old when i got it (approved used) and i bought it without realising it didn't have essential options like HK, Pro Nav, Xenons etc. I haven't had it for 3 years yet.

Ah!!! My BMW is the lowest powered car you can get and that's what i asked the dealer.

Even snails overtake me on motorway when the road is wet.

I'm due my renewal this month with Admiral.. 435i with spacers, alloys, m performance splitter, diffuser, lip spoiler, skirt decals, steering wheel and exhaust. If based on last years half fee (I switched to a BMW 6 months into my old policy) it should be £2400, but I know it isn't going to be. Oh and I'm 22 and having to declare my address as Birmingham city centre

If it's under 2.4 then I'll stick with them. My plan is to get a partial refund and move to a-plan specialist in August as I will have had 12 months on the car and they'll cover everything including mods (which they're not overly fussed about) giving me a significant saving.

£2.4k for insurance is a lot of money mate, but it is 435i with many mods, so not too bad though.

How old is your driving license if you don't mind me asking? I think the older license age, the cheaper insurance.

Had it since I was 18 so just 4 years, I didn't start collecting ncb's until the first year was over as I had to be a named driver (I wasn't driving much anyway, I just had to share my car with the rest of the family as a result )

I am tempted to pay for one of my parents to be a named driver in hopes that they'll see it as a percentage of them driving bringing the price down even more.

My main quotes so far have been mid £4k with a black box, 2.4 is only achievable because we're doing it on a multi car policy in the family which is 6 vehicles, so I suppose I'm getting the most discount I'm probably going to get.

Definitely this. Adding people saves more than you think. Adding my wife a few years ago knocked 25% plus off my policy and she was same age, same no claims, just a less risky job.

Also, double check your job title insurance risk. You might have a job that can be called a couple of things, some less risky than others. For example commercial manger for me is cheaper than putting sales manager. Just play about a bit on the comparison sites.

I'm with Admiral myself with a 440i GC. In my mid 30's with 3 years no claims (due to a claim 2 years ago).

Paying around £600 for the 440, although I do have another 3 cars on the policy so probably getting some multi-car and loyalty discount.

Go to a comparison site like Go Compare and get a quote. I'm sure it'll be cheaper than what you've been quoted. 3/440i's aren't the most expensive to insure and without any claims it shouldn't be so high. Unless you're insuring it in an area that's a bit of a car crime hot spot?
