What do you do with your new car?

I am eagerly counting down the days until my new 340xi rolls off the boat and I started thinking about what I am going to do on the day I pick it up.

I was searching around and couldn't find a thread about this... so I'm curious how people mark the occasion of getting their new set of keys.

What's the first thing you do with your new ride? Do you have some new car ritual? How do you celebrate?

And please, I'm not looking to turn this into a debate about adhering to a break-in period

1st thing I Drive to IND and add the cosmetic mods. They are basically in my backyard.

When my 340i lands I will have them install black grills, color matched front and rear reflectors and some Mperf goodies.

2nd tint

I figured out what I wanted to code, bought leather cleaner, prepared check list of things to check during delivery, prepared for the pain of break in period

Rip that thing around town giving it a proper break in that's what I did.

Once I take delivery I will go for a few drives out in the country side to empty the tank of the crappie gas it comes with so I can fill the tank with my favourite gas and repeat the process the next day. I would to see about 1000 KM on the clock before I start the normal fun and enjoyment I expect over the term of my lease.

I took delivery in a terrible snow storm the night before Thanksgiving. With my 1 year old. Drove the family down to Delaware the next day and proceeded to take pictures while everyone ate turkey and watched football.

That and/or ED is the way to go. Couldn't do it for my delivery last time around, but hopefully on the next...assuming BMW ever decides to bring a wagon here again.

I drive it to the detailer ASAP to get it opti-coated.

Next time I'll also consider getting the front part xpel-wrapped.

I Always take them out for a short stroll and then park the car in a parking lot and go through all the electronics and get stuff set up for me. Then I put on some good tunes, dial in the stereo and away we go.

If I'm leasing a car, it gets wild and crazy right away. Otherwise...: I wait.

I take a victory lap at the BMW Welt and head for a nice drive in the German countryside to take a handful of pictures with the beautiful scenery in the background.

I take a nice drive out in the country listening to the engine and testing out the sound system briefly, then take a shitload of pictures. I'm hoping within the first few days I can get my exterior mods installed either by myself or a performance shop. Probably a window tint within the first few days as well. Also develop a personal spending plan to recover from all of the cash and time devoted to obsessing and shopping for said vehicle...

That's the first thing I do when it hits my driveway.

I drive it a few hundred miles through the German countryside to break in the brakes and tires before merging onto the Autobahn where I vary the speed a lot between 80 and 120 mph while keeping the rpm below 4,500.
Once home, RFT's go off and the V1 gets hardwired.

Well, you got me there. I never thought about it, but my M3 is the first in a long line of cars that I haven't debaged. But I didn't buy it new, so it doesn't apply here

Seriously, every car I have ever owned. My T bird, Ranger, Mustang, 2 Jeeps, 5 BMWs including my 135i and 550i, an Explorer a Land Rover and others I am probably forgetting, have all been completely debadged. I used to debadge my bicycles when I was a kid. It is something I learned from my father... We debadged and blacked out the chrome on my first car together before I started driving.

With the M3, I have kept it almost dead stock, maybe as it started to appreciate a little I am trying to keep it mint and original. I have hardly touched anything except refreshing things that have started to age. Or I'm just fooling myself and really want to show off the badge - no, not really, that car turns enough heads on it's own - sometimes too much attention really. If I had an F30 340i or F80 M3 I would certainly debadge. Maybe I should stick to my guns and debadge the M3 too. No promises.
